Every year my friend and I get into the car to explore Vermont. The rule is that we have no planned route. We simply point and turn at will. Wherever we end up at dinner time we stop and eat. After dinner we head straight home with the fastest route. We ended up in Tinmouth, Wells, Ira, and Middletown Springs, Vermont. This year we added the requirement that the trip has to involve an antique store.
This was a funky home farm stand with a crooked barn. Pumpkins, squash, gourds, tomatoes, zucchini, squash all displayed with little pieces of slate native to the area with prices marked with chalk. A box is provided to place your money in~honor system. Wells, Vermont.
It’s funny, sometimes, the places we find nostalgia. My good friend and I toured back roads last weekend with no plan and no destination. It was fantastic. We stopped at this overgrown pull off where a little trailer made from a modified 1940’s truck sat, filled with cast off boards and housewares. Inside it was this old tv.

I was transported back through time, to my parents living room and their TV of a similar vintage, and all I could think of was what the news used to be like. So straightforward. Just the facts, ma’am. Dan Rather.

I haven’t had TV in years (stations, that is. Netflix is essential). A large part of the reason for this is the state of the news. I won’t elaborate; suffice to say that in my therapy practice I end up addressing the news regularly with folks who suffer anxiety. There is a connection in many cases. We don’t have to live like that.

In any case, this odd little roadside stop was rich with nostalgia and interesting things to photograph, natural and contrived.
