Options in Renting~One size does not fit all!

This story is to explain how we rent out Vermont Cottage Lake Amherst. Let's be real, it's not easy to organize a group of 10-12 people for a get-together. For years we only rented it out as the whole place in the summer. Many times it sat empty when summer ended. Why rent and pay for an entire 6 bedroom 4 bathroom cottage that sleeps 10-12 people when you only need it for 2? Couples, small groups and families were missing out on staying at this very cool 1930s era cottage. That is when we came up with the idea to offer up the cottage in smaller portions during slow seasons. What if we market it as renting 2 bedrooms for 4 people or 4 bedrooms for 8....and of course still offer the entire place for 10-12 people? That could solve it.

The first offering was to rent just the downstairs where there are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. This was perfect for 6-8 people, depending on sleeping configurations. A small group traveling together found this to be a perfect solution. While utilizing the 4 bedrooms downstairs, all the amenities of the cottage could still be enjoyed: The large screened-in porch, fire place, beach, boat, fire pit, grill, and front lawn seating to enjoy the view. It worked out well. The cottage wasn't as empty anymore.

Of course then came more ideas to offer it to a small family of 5-6 or maybe a small group of friends traveling together. Out of that came the idea to offer it for a bit less by providing 3 bedrooms and still 3 bathrooms. By closing off a 4th bedroom, this made it even more affordable and flexible. So off we went to offer it that way and it was a success!
