If youāre looking for a chalet that is rustic, cozy and perfect for a small to medium sized family, this is the chalet for you. Less than 15 minutes to downtown Ellijay, less than 30 minutes to Blue Ridge.
Wake up and head out onto the spacious front deck to watch the sunrise over the mountain peeks. Next, stay cozy inside while you cuddle up on the comfortable couch near the wood burning fireplace to watch a movie. In the evening you can skip the indoor dining. Grab some plates and a bottle of wine and head outdoors to enjoy a magical evening dinner under the strings of fairy lights. You can hang out on the back deck overlooking the fire pit and green space in the back yard. This is also a great spot to watch the deer roam while relaxing in this quaint 3 bedroom, 1 bath getaway. It has everything you need.
ā„ Fun things to do in Ellijay ā„
Any of the activities below sound fun? Like the chalet? Book now before someone else snags it!
š 1. See the sunset view from the front deck
Itās a truly magical experience to watch the sunset over the mountain peeks from the comfort of your very own Home Away Chalet. Grab your loved ones and enjoy!
š£āāļø2. Go tubing or kayaking
The beautiful waters of the Cartecay River run through the mountains in and around the city of Ellijay, merging with the Ellijay River to form Coosawattee. Kids and adults alike will enjoy a tube or kayak trip down the river. Be prepared for mild turbulence and traveling over rocks in some parts.
š·3. Visit a vineyard
Cartecay vineyard is a nice place to relax and enjoy. They have seating inside their cozy tasting room, and also outside under their beautiful trees. They offer a wide selection of both reds and whites grown in their own vineyard.
A beautiful yet rustic place with a warm welcoming atmosphere with a wide selection, from sweets to dry and floral notes. āPersonal favoriteā Chimney Red, Beaujolais style slightly off dry yet medium bodied. Delicious to the last drop.
Other local wineries include Fainting Goat Vineyards & Winery, Engelheim Vineyards, and Chateau Meichtry. Take your pick!
š4. Mine for gems
You and your family can be miners for the day at Huckās Lost Mine. It is such a fun stop on the way to Blue Ridge, Georgia. The buckets are full of great gems, fossils and other great stuff! The staff is wonderful and so knowledgeable about your findings. The gem selection is fantastic and a must do! Great family fun with excellent pricing. Something for everyone.
š¤ 5. Join a railbike tour
Visit the Freedom Rail for a one of a kind tour. Start an exciting journey through Blue Ridge, Ga. aboard the Freedom Railbikes. Leave the depot in historic downtown Blue Ridge and begin a 5 Ā½ mile round-trip adventure by creeks, ponds, vineyards, gorgeous mountain homes and cabins and a covered bridge through tall Georgia pines. Keep your eyes and camera ready for wildlife during this incredibly scenic hour and half adventure.
š“ 6. Bike through Bear Creek Pinhoti trail
Drive up FS road until the start of Bear Creek Trail (Pinhoti 1). Just about 2 miles long, the bear creek loop is an extremely beautiful scenery. Youāll also cross over a few creeks (be prepared to get wet).
The downhill is super fun, with creeks and good speed, I would call it intermediate in terms of technical difficulty and easy in terms of strength.
Uphill is more challenging. I would consider it intermediate.
š„¾ 7. Take a hike
Tumbling Water Trail is off the beaten path. Gorgeous nature, pristine river and rock waterfalls. This trail is 1/2 a mile to get to the bridge/overlook/falls from the parking area. I would consider this an easy to moderate hike. There are some tree roots and rocks to watch out for, but great for kids.
There are several trails to hike within the Walnut Mountain community if you are wanting to stay within the gates.
š¦ 8. Chase waterfalls
Take the whole family! Start in nearby Amicalola Falls State Park to enjoy its namesake 729-foot waterfall! Itās a breathtaking sight. You can either hike from the base to the top of the drop or take a drive for a panoramic view.
Lots of photo opportunities. The hike is steep but doable even for children. The trail is not really stroller or wheelchair friendly though it does have blacktop.
For extra adventure you can join their zip lining tour.
š£ 9. Go fishinā
The community of Walnut Mountain has four lakes to catch and release fish.
šŗ 10. Grab a beer at the River Street Tavern
Good food, good beer, good service. They feature some of the finest and most popular Georgia Beer & Wine straight from local breweries and vineyards!
