Choose to Paddle Board on the Lagoon side or Lake side
There is no argument that many have a love of paddle boarding. At Grand Beach Provincial Park there are rules to follow as to where you can launch from based upon what kind of paddle board you have. Always check the flag pole to see what colour flag is up to warn of wind conditions. Green is good. Yellow is caution. Red is do not go in the water.
Both inflatable and solid paddle boards can be used on the Lake side and in the Lagoon. The Lake, or beach side is very shallow until you get past the swimming buoys, but is exposed to more winds off the lake. Beyond the buoys the water gets deeper. The Lagoon side is deep just a short ways into the water. The Lagoon also gets algea growth after July's hot weather. While the Lake side might be windy, the Lagoon side is usually calmer waters and easier for beginners to practice.
All inflatable boards can be launched at the main swimming area at the west beach, either inside or outside the swimming buoys. You can walk to the beach, or drive. When you enter the park at the west entrance, drive straight ahead and keep to the left at the first yield. The main parking lot is immediately to your right at the yield.
The solid paddle boards must be launched from the far parking lot towards the east beach. Solid paddle boards must stay on the outside of the swimming buoys. This is also close to where the dog swimming beach is. Again, when entering the park from the west gate, drive straight ahead keeping to the right at the first yield. Continue past the tennis courts where you will see the lagoon on your right side. Follow the road past the second parking lot and into the third parking lot that allows access to the lagoon boat launch area, the dog swimming area as well as the west side of the beach.
