Places in Medina & nearby
Medina is located in a very unique place, the geographic upper Medina Valley and close to the headwaters of the Medina River. This very fertile valley gave rise to the cultivation of apples back in the early 80's, thus giving Medina the name "Apple Capital of Texas". The quaint town located on this special valley has it's own school, volunteer fire department, 4 churches, a custom Log Beds furniture store, Moffett Park riverside park, The Core Coffee House, The Old Timer convenience store with gas station, one Family Dollar chain store, the Little Cottage Quilt store, a beauty salon, Keese's Barbecue restaurant, Chuckwagon Cafe a burger stand, The Apple Store, Love Creek Apple Orchard, a small mechanic shop and an extraordinary Community Library with a recent World Class annex.
The surrounding hills, clear Medina River and green fields just add a sigh of relief when arriving. Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Natural Area are just minutes away. The Three Sisters Scenic Loop begins in Medina, which offers an Amazing view of the Texas Hill Country.
There are Vineyards in the area too: Lost Maples Winery, Scimitar Vineyard and Bent Branch Winery are minutes away.
Camp Verde, location of an 1850 General Store that serviced the area a US Army fort that experimented with camels. Provides an upscale restaurant, store and park like grounds by Verde Creek.
Bandera, the "bigger" town only 15 minutes away, offers a Natural History Museum and a Frontier Times Museum that are great for kids and adults. They also host cowboy re-enactments in their plaza and courthouse that take you back to cowboy yesteryear and lore.
