The biennial dredging at the Channel Islands Harbor will begin on December 26, 2024, with completion expected by February 2025, weather permitting. Equipment will be staged at Hobie and Silver Strand beaches. This dredging, authorized in the 1960s, ensures sand is trapped at the harbor to prevent its loss to the submarine canyon off Port Hueneme and provides material for replenishing downcoast beaches. The replenishment is critical for protecting key facilities, including Naval installations at Port Hueneme and Point Mugu, the Port of Hueneme, and the City of Port Hueneme. What this means to you is that there will be a large pipe running through the beach. Just FYI. You may still enjoy the beach :)
