The best time to visit Nuevo Vallarta is between April and June when the weather is pleasant and the room rates are affordable. During these months, rain is scarce and there are fewer tourists compared to the winter high season. If you're interested in whale watching, however, visit from December to March. The Grand Luxxe Residence Club has discounts on whale watching and other activities throughout the year.
January-March
You'll see Nuevo Vallarta at its best at this time of year, as temperatures usually stay in the mid-70s with very little rain. Evenings can be cool – average lows dip down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit – so pack long sleeves. The trade-off for the outstanding weather is high prices; be prepared for room rates to cost more than $500 a night at some of the area's best hotels. Resorts will cost more but you will have a suite as opposed to just a hotel room. It is the best time to be rewarded with prime whale watching conditions.
April-June
You'll notice that the tourist crowds have started to taper off at this time of year and, fortunately, the temperatures still aren't too hot. Look to visit in May especially, when the average is between 70- and 80-degrees Fahrenheit.
July-September
With averages in the 90s, Nuevo Vallarta’s temperatures spike the most in summer, and there are often brief bursts of rain so pack an umbrella. Because this resort town is protected by the Banderas Bay, hurricanes are rarely an issue.
October-December
October is a decent time to visit Nuevo Vallarta. Temperatures range between the mid-70s and high 80s. Keep in mind that tourist season begins to perk up again once November hits. Several key festivals occur at this time of year, too, which fill the surrounding area with travelers. December marks the start of prime whale watching season in Nuevo Vallarta.
The final assessment is that any time is a good time to visit depending on what you're looking for. And, if it's a luxury retreat, try the Grand Luxxe Residence Club for golf, tennis, swimming, spa treatments, etc. The best around!
