Lou Messugo, a beautiful, sunny 1 bedroom self-catering holiday rental, is ideally positioned to explore the French Riviera. Located in a quiet village between coast (15 mins drive) & mountains (30 mins drive), walking distance to shops and restaurants. 30 mins drive to Nice, Cannes & Antibes. Swimming pool, garden & private sun-trap terrace. Suitable for small families and couples. Provencal charm guaranteed!

Bright sunny 1 bedroom apartment Lou Messugo, sleeps up to 4 people and is attached to, but fully independent of, our beautiful Provencal family home in the world-famous French Riviera. (Apartment doesnt really describe our place though as that gives the impression it is in a block of flats, which it is not! The French word gite suits it much better!) Set in a large garden with swimming pool (shared only with us, the owners) on a quiet no-through road, this tranquil setting is only a few minutes walk to the local town centre with all amenities.

The apartment has 1 bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a double sofa bed, a modern bathroom with large shower, a kitchenette (with 2 ring hob, oven, microwave/grill, fridge & all necessary equipment for cooking your own meals) satellite TV, hifi with USB connexion, WIFI (free & unlimited), sunny patio with BBQ and sun loungers. We provide all linen and bath towels. Pool towels are available at an extra cost if required.

On site we have a range of facilities including a pétanque (boules) pitch, table tennis, badminton and of course there is the fabulous pool.

To make life easy we can provide most necessary equipment for travelling with babies/toddlers such as a travel cot, high chair, plastic plates/cutlery/cups, changing mat and a good selection of toys, books & games. We know just how much paraphernalia the smallest members of the family come with as weve been there!

We live on site and are available to help with language issues (booking restaurants, onward travel, tickets for events/trips etc) and were always happy to advise on what to do in the area. Weve lived here for more than 10 years and spend as much time as possible exploring all the amazing things on offer, from canyoning, hiking, sailing, skiing, golf through to museums, art galleries, undiscovered country villages via shopping, restaurants and markets. Our kids have grown up here so we can suggest things to do with the little ones too. We love helping our guests get the most out of their time in our beautiful part of the world and we love hearing all about your travels. But we are also sensitive to our guests need for privacy so if you want to be left alone thats absolutely fine too. Youre fully independent of us so its up to you how much contact you want.

In the gite youll find plenty of brochures for local attractions, a large-scale map of the area, guide books in French and English and a selection of novels (many of them set in the area) for you to borrow and swap. We can provide hiking maps, picnic sets, parasols for the beach, most things to make your holiday fun, just ask!!

This part of France is gorgeous at any time of year and our proximity to the mountains means we can even be used as a base for days out skiing or snow-shoe trekking. Winter is mild and short with plenty of sun and midday temperatures often getting up to 18°c (65°F) in January making it possible to sit out on a sunny restaurant terrace for lunch even in mid-winter! The apartment is fully heated for a cosy stay in the cooler months.

The town of Roquefort les Pins has everything you require on a daily basis with 3 delicious bakeries (for those buttery croissants, pain au chocolats and crunchy baguettes), an excellent supermarket, butchers, greengrocers, delis, organic store, newsagents (with foreign papers), banks, cafés, several good restaurants (walking distance) and a weekly market.
The apartment is in a quiet impasse (no through road so no traffic) in a residential area surrounded by large family villas, all with big gardens. It is a calm and genuine local area that benefits from being close to forests and the countryside but walking distance to the town centre.
We are ideally located between mountains and sea, only 20-30 mins to beautiful beaches and the buzzing towns of Cannes & Nice and less than 1 hour to the nearest ski resort.
This area really does offer something for everyone: stunning scenery, adventure sports, beaches, shopping, hiking, mountain biking, golf, fabulous food, gorgeous medieval hill villages, art galleries and much much more.

Guests have their own key and being in a separate apartment are fully independent to come and go as they like. There are no rules! They have access to a large garden with a pétanque pitch, trampoline, ping-pong table and badminton. They also have access to the pool during daylight hours (and in season, roughly May - late September depending on the weather) which is shared with us, the owners. If needed guests can store large items such as bicycles, golf clubs, skis, etc in our garage.

We play it by ear as to how much we interact with guests. We have been running our very successful vacation rental for more than 10 years so we usually get a good feel for whether our guests want to chat and socialise or be left alone. As the apartment is fully independent there is no need to interact, but often the desire is there and we all enjoy getting to know each other. Each booking is different! We do however live on site and are nearly always here during bookings so guests will see us around though we are respectful of their privacy and discrete.

We are located 30 mins drive from Nice International Airport and only 5 minutes walk from the bus stop on the route from Nice to Grasse (passing by Nice airport). The bus links up with the coast train which makes it possible to spend time here using only public transport though to make the most of this stunning and varied area we strongly recommend you have your own car. It should be stressed that this is a country bus line not an urban bus and therefore runs about every 30-40 mins and stops early in the evening. A car is advised if possible.
Cars can be parked right outside the apartment door, making it easy to unload luggage, transfer tired children etc. The parking area is secure, within our locked property.

Phoebe
I'm British/Australian/French married to a French guy. We built our house, "Lou Messugo", in 2009 in the most amazing part of the south of France because after a lifetime of travel we knew we'd found somewhere pretty special to put down roots. I love my life in this beautiful corner of France. I enjoy blogging about it (www.loumessugo.com/blog) and sharing it with others both through writing and in the flesh with my guests from all over the world. Travel and meeting people from different cultures are my passions. I'd be delighted to host you at Lou Messugo so get in touch!
