About me

Icon
Hi, my name is Elisabeth. Born in Hidden to an US mom and a German dad, I grew up moving around the world. I welcome you to our Villa Maestrali, the family vacation home built in the early 1970's on Skiathos island.
After raising a family, and for the past 18 years, my main focus is now managing this magical place, and helping our guests create wonderful memories. Thanks to its lush green vegetation, soft sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters, Skiathos is called the "Emerald of the Aegean". As the filming location of "Mamma Mia" in 2008, this Greek island is no longer an insider tip. Come bask in sun, relax on the over 60 beaches and coves, take boat rides around the island and spend a day on its tiny neighbouring islands. Enjoy the friendly locals and wonderfully fresh cooked dishes offered in the colourful tavernas in town, and on most beaches.
After welcoming our guests, we stay on Skiathos all season, ready to share local insider tips and to be of assistance if so desired.

KASTRO: Discover the Fortress Ruins of Skiathos' Ancient Capital.

Skiathos’ famous Kastro - the Greek word for castle - is a monument of extraordinary, awe-inspiring beauty. Due to constant pirate invasions in the mid 14th century, the Skiathos inhabitants decided to leave their ancient, main city, and move to the northern part of the island for safety. Taking advantage of its natural fortification, they chose a point of high land jutting out into the sea, a large rocky promontory on which to build Kastro as their new capital and keep the

Nitwits and Cotton-Bums - The Legend of Tsougria Islet

Nitwits and Cotton-Bums - The Legend of Tsougria Islet

Once upon a time, the people of Skopelos quarrelled with the people of Skiathos over the islet of Tsougria, a small island protecting the entrance of the port of Skiathos. The people of Skopelos decided to steal the island for themselves and place it in front of their own port, to shield it from the rough seas of its northern exposure. So they made a long rope by entwining the intestines of many animals and tied it to Tsougria, thinking to pull it over to their port. That is why

Panagia Kounistra Monastery and its Miracle Legend

Panagia Kounistra Monastery, also known as Panagia Eikonistria Monastery is another picturesque monastery on Skiathos, tucked away in the middle of a pine forest on the southwestern side of the island. According to legend, one night in 1650, a monk, who led an ascetic life and was named Symeon, was surprised to see a twinkling light in the forest. Upon approaching it, the light receded, only to reappear and disappear again several times, so that he was unable to see what it

Cats on Skiathos Island

Cats on Skiathos Island

Like all Greek islands, Skiathos is no different in that is has a large population of stray cats, mostly appearing during the summer season. Much to the delight of cat-loving tourists, some lounge in the sun, draping themselves off the crooked steps of the town’s back allies, walls or the typical local blue painted chairs, as if waiting to be photographed. Others sit patiently in groups at the harbour, knowing when the colourful kaiki fishing boats will come in to give them
