I have been looking for a good picture of the Quechee gorge to really illustrate its vastness. This video is perfect.

Vermont's Route 100

Vermont's Route 100

Scenic drives and great places to stop. Outlined below are a collection of trips recommending Route 100. However! What we love to do every fall is get in the car and just go, taking right and left turns on a whim. Some of our best times and best discoveries are found this way.

Crown Point Military Road

Crown Point Military Road

The small old dirt road that runs between the cottage and the lake was the road the soldiers marched over during the Revolutionary War.

The History of Vermont Cottage

The History of Vermont Cottage

Howard Armstrong from Bennington, Vermont was a young attorney who moved to Ludlow to join a law firm and practice law. His first case was representing a chicken thief. The chicken thief won his case, but Howard said, "He was guilty as hell." Howard became best friends with Earle Brown from Plymouth. Earle's sister Margaret, a school teacher, was riding with her boyfriend and Howard was hitch hiking. Margaret asked her boyfriend to pick him up. He didn't want to and history proves

Whether you need quality meats, home made beef jerky, home smoked bacon, a bottle of Vodka, clothing, or a gun, this is the ole time market place for you. If you are driving in from southern New England from the western areas, you will probably be exiting off the I91 onto Vermont Route 103 which will take you right past Singleton's Market.

Vermont Pilgrimage

Vermont Pilgrimage

Every year my friend and I get into the car to explore Vermont. The rule is that we have no planned route. We simply point and turn at will. Wherever we end up at dinner time we stop and eat. After dinner we head straight home with the fastest route. We ended up in Tinmouth, Wells, Ira, and Middletown Springs, Vermont. This year we added the requirement that the trip has to involve an antique store.

Lake Amherst: The link to General Jeffrey Amherst and the Revolutionary War

Lake Amherst: The link to General Jeffrey Amherst and the Revolutionary War

I had a hunch that our cottage was on land marched over during the Revolutionary War so I did some research. General Jeffrey Amherst and his men marched from Fort No. Four to Fort Ticonderoga during the "War of the Revolution" or Revolutionary War. On their way they camped on the north side of the lake. The lake is now named after General Amherst. It is now known as Lake Amherst in Plymouth, Vermont. It is where Vermont Cottage Lake Amherst is today! Imagine that!
