About me

Hello I am Valerie the owner operator of Aberyscir Coach House.
Having travelled the world for years we settled in the Brecon Beacons about 10 years ago. We fell in love with our Victorian rectory that has spectacular views of the mountains. I have become a Brecon Beacons Ambassador and my husband Peter a volunteer warden helping to maintain the paths in the park.
We meet all our guests on arrival and are here should you want any help or information. We do have 2 black labradors who also enjoy meeting the guests and the chickens are your neighbours.

Brecon Beacons Stargazing

Brecon Beacons Stargazing

The Brecon Beacons is one of the best places in the UK to observe our dark skies and for stargazing. During July we were so very lucky to experience a spell of clear skies just as the comet NEOWISE was passing. This particular comet was visible to the naked eye which makes it a particularly rare occurance.

Castles of the Brecon Beacons

Castles of the Brecon Beacons

Wales has an impressive number of castles and the Brecon Beacons on Soth Wales has some beautiful examples. They may not be the biggest or more well known but still offer an insight into life back then.

The Three Horseshoes Groesfford Wales

The Three Horseshoes Groesfford Wales

The Three Horseshoes Groesfford, just outside Brecon, has always been one of my favourite places to eat in the Brecon Beacons. Having just visited I know why they were recently awarded 2 rosettes for culinary excellence by the AA. This is an outstanding achievement for a small restaurant tucked away in a small residential street. Connor and the team have worked incredibly hard to achieve this and I will happily recommend to our visitors.

Hills Brecon Wales

Hills Brecon Wales

If you are looking for a burger with a difference then you should visit Hills Brecon . It is situated just outside Bishop's Meadows on the outskirts of Brecon. It is a light airy place having had a big makeover from the old caravan park restaurant. You can choose to sit at the restaurant tables or in the bar area with smaller tables and frankly a bit quieter. They only use the best beef from a well known local supplier. you cah choose from the monthly specials or build your own.

Big Pit Blaenafon

Big Pit Blaenafon

As part of our Brecon Beacons Ambassador scheme we visited Big Pit National Coal Museum at Blaenafon. When the mine closed over 100 years of coal mining came to an end. It was decided to preserve and share the experience of the Welsh miner in a museum. Real miners take you 90 metres underground in the same cage as they used though thankfully quite a bit slower. Oue guide Steve had worked in the mines for 35 years and as you can imagine had a few tall tales to tell . He made you
