Located in Manteo, NC overlooking the Roanoke Sound Is the Lost Colony Theatre. It is an outdoor theatre and among other activities has the story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke. In 1587, a second group of settlers landed in Roanoke Virginia, which is now North Carolina. Captain John White left to get provisions in 1588 and when he returned in 1590, the colony was gone. The mystery remains of what happened to the colony. This play depicts the events that led up to the disappearance.
Most of the actors are college students majoring in theatrics that work for the theatre during the summer. It is a wonderful story with great actors. It is worth seeing during your trip to the outer banks.
If you want dinner and the theatre, some of the local restaurants will give discounts toward your meal and make sure you get out in time to catch the show if you arrive at a certain time.
**Note: try to get tickets on evenings with no rain and bring bug spray.
