Details regarding the remodeling of Playa del Carmen’s popular Fifth Avenue shopping area have been revealed by the municipal city council who say the area has suffered deterioration for years, due to a lack of maintenance.
Mayor Laura Beristain reported the remodeling of the shopping area will generate 250 jobs and cost 117 million peso. She detailed that changes along the city’s Fifth Avenue will include an integration of the entire tourist quadrant bounded on the west by 10th avenue, on the east by the beach, on the north by 14th street and on the south by the Parque Fundadores.
The current lights along the avenue will be replaced with LED, subsidence will be corrected and new absorption wells will be installed to prevent flooding. New street seating areas will be installed and better beach accesses will be created while preserving the current vegetation.
On Monday, city council revealed the anticipated remodeling of the area surrounding Parque Fundadores, which will also include new lighting, outdoor seating areas, cobblestone and an amphitheater overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Check out the video below
