No more daylight savings time for Mexico!
Effective October 31, 2022 daylight savings time was eliminated for all but a few communities along the US border. Quintana Roo and Sonora have not observed daylight time for years, so there is no change for us.

What if you need a Doctor while visiting Playa del Carmen.
If you need to be seen by a Doctor, we recommend Hospiten Playacar. Very close to the condo on the highway just south of Sams Club. English speaking personnel and very high standards. There is good information here regarding insurance, 911 etc. Check with your health insurance beforehand to see what coverage you may have while traveling in Mexico
You don't need to know Spanish when visiting Playa del Carmen
English is widely used in Playa del Carmen, especially in the tourist areas. If you venture into the countryside, English will be less prevalent. But, it's not impossible to get by on just a few words...even gestures. Here are some basic Spanish words. Try them out! It's really fun and gratifying. Please be a responsible tourist and protect the reefs
You should plan to use only eco sunscreen and use things such as hats, sunscreen clothing etc to eliminate the need to use so much of it.

I've been travelling around Mexico for 25 years. I've spent most of my time in the Yucatan peninsula along the Caribbean and I've learned a few things here and there. Mexico bans vaping
Mexico has taken a bold step to ban vaping. Many people have been able to bring vaping items into the country packed in their luggage. There is a risk that Customs will confiscate your vaping materials during a random luggage check.

Cell phone use in Playa del Carmen, MX
Nowadays most people are inseparable from their phones. We use them for everything and are lost without them. Because they are such a big part of our everyday lives, you will most likely want to continue using yours while traveling in Playa del Carmen. They are still the best way to find each other at the airport, a parking lot, or just around town.
Drinking water and food preparation
Everyone drinks bottled water in Playa del Carmen, including the locals. Restaurants will bring you a bottle of water (they do charge for it) and a glass of ice. The rule of thumb is if the ice has a dimple in it, it was made from purified water.
