Yuengling Brewery
Yuengling Brewery is a must-take free tour enjoyed by more than 70,000 visitors yearly. As America's oldest brewery, it is family-owned and gaining national attention for many good reasons. In Pottsville, PA, and only a short drive from Clover's Cottage, we think you should plan a getaway stay soon.
HERE is a Today Show video about the four sisters that run the brewery.
HERE is their website with all the details.
Before You Go - Things you will want to know before you visit the brewery.
The Company Video - A very interesting 27-minute video about the history of Yuengling Brewery over the last nearly 200 years.
If you go, you will find the tour to be very interesting, and complete with a tasting of their products at the end. There is a lovely gift shop and some amazing history in their factory built into the side of a small mountain in a small city. Whether you are a fan of beer or not, this is a visit worth making.
As Natives of Pottsville
Yuengling Brewery is special to all of Schuylkill County, including our own family. We lived in Pottsville, only 11 blocks west of Yuengling Brewery, for 18 years and that street was the hub of much of our family life.
Our family home (1815 Mahantongo Street), our church (St. John The Baptist), and our schools (ABVM and the former Seedlings Preschool at Schuylkill County Council For The Arts) were all on the same street as Yuengling Brewery - Mahantongo Street, in Pottsville. The brewery factory whistle would blow at lunchtime and my children, attending school just three blocks away, knew what time it was. Each week they would walk with their classmates and teachers to School Mass, often to the Church of St. Patrick, whose beautiful stone church has stood directly adjacent to Yuengling Brewery since 1831, each massive building separated by only 1 foot of space.
On certain days, and with the wind blowing in the right direction, a drive through parts of Pottsville will come with the unique odor of the beer brewing nearby - some say it is the smell of the hops added to the brew or the fermentation process - but I like to think of it as the pleasant pride of Pottsville for the last nearly 200 years, wafting across the city.
