Fall in Summit County and Breckenridge

There are many moments at altitude that literally and figuratively take your breath away, but the changing of the aspen trees has to rate right up there with the best.

So now that you’ve had a chance to recover from all your summer activities, it’s time to get back outside and experience the show. Hikes and rides in aspen groves should be at the very top of your list for fall in Summit County. Many travel experts list the Colorado high country amongst the best global bucket list leaf peeping options. So in other words, don’t miss it!

If you prefer to admire plants for the grapes, and then the wine, that they provide, be sure to plan to be in town for the Breckenridge Wine Classic. September 14-16th are the dates of this wine and food celebration.

Another chance to socialize and celebrate the other plants and vegetables we metamorphosize into adult beverages is the Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival. Also known as Still on the Hill, this festival gives us the opportunity to revere craft spirits and the artists who make them.

Breckenridge is home to both the award winning Breck Distillery and the upstart Dancing Pines Distillery, and with thirty plus visiting crafters, look for good-natured yet hearty competition. And please remember, Summit County has a robust free transportation system, and Uber does exist in the high country.

Remember newspapers? The Summit Daily is our free local, and the best place to check for off-season dining specials. Many restaurants offer set menus and deep discounts during the shoulder season.

The ski areas are targeting Nov 10th as opening day, and Loveland’s snowmaking ticker is counting down to the end-of-September snowmaking operations start date. The days are getting shorter and the down jackets are starting to emerge at night and early mornings. Winter comes fast around here, so be sure to get out and enjoy those precious fall days!
