Response:AC: We realized the AC is not working 2 days before guest arrival, we called emergency service but according to the AC tech, Freon had leaked and since the same freon is not available due to restrictions, we had no choice but replace the AC. We immediately purchased 3 portable ACs for the 4 bedrooms (all 3 rooms are bigger than the 4th one) and the 4th room had AC connected to both upstairs AC as well as lower lever AC (which was still working). We also immediately informed the guest the situation (1 day before check in). We had scheduled another mechanic to come and check the existing AC for replacement with guest permission, when tech arrived, guest denied technician access to the house (He would also unplug the garage doors for some reason). Since there were 3 portable AC working, we turned on the HVAC Fan to circulate the cold air to all rooms. We were monitoring the room temperature during guest stay and it always below 73. Also this house has 7 bedrooms and there were only 4 guests staying, so they had 6 bedrooms with AC for 4 guests.
Regarding "...open the windows", some of the houses on the mountain do not even have AC and for those houses they simply open the windows for fresh air. During the week guest stayed, outside temp was on low 40s and high at 60s, and guest turned on the downstair heater (of the AC which was working) and turned off the upstairs HVAC fan since it was too cold and needed heater instead of AC. So we believe he didn't need a working AC and if he needed, he could have opened the windows for few minutes to allow colder air.
"Never written a negative review", even before he checked, he was complaining about the previous host, according to him they had dirty linens which caused them allergy, so if that was true, he should have given them a negative review, so we believe he was looking for a reason for a refund even before he checked in to the house.
"...dirty rugs" most of the carpets are expensive carpets, mostly high traffic area to avoid hardwood damages but we have few carpets which are in the kitchen area and bathrooms we bought from Amazon, which we periodically replace, We shampoo all the rugs and bedroom carpets twice a year (Spring and fall). This is the first time someone complaining about the bathroom rugs, we will be working on replacing them (even though we are not sure if we need to replace them)
So instead of working with us to fix the issues, he decided to be be hostile.
