We have two offices for you to work at home. Our house has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. This is our second home, not an "investor property." We stay here ourselves often. Most of our rentals are repeats every year!
Home Description
Our 4BD/3Bath, fully air-conditioned, beach home is an excellent choice for longer vacations and executive relocation. Our rental rates are much lower than rates for less desirable homes further from the beach. We know because if we could have found a beautiful home like this to rent -- this close to the beach -- we may not have bought this home!
Location in gated community close to the beach, shopping, and restaurants
Our home is located in Waters End, a gated community in Carlsbad, CA near the beach. The community is west of I-5, easily reachable from the Poinsettia Lane exit. The Poinsettia Coaster Train Station is a 5 minute walk from our house -- a side gate from the community leads directly to the train station parking lot. The Coaster gets you to downtown San Diego in minutes, and connects with Amtrak, north and south. We are also ten minutes from Palomar Airport with plenty of space for private planes.
South Carlsbad ("Ponto") beach is a short 8-10 minute walk (or 4 minute bike ride), and our community has a very large pool and spa. The pool, spa, basketball court, and playground shown in the pictures above are only 6 houses down the street from our house (without crossing any streets) -- but you can't hear any pool noise from our house. The whole community is very kid friendly. There is a very good shopping center across Poinsettia Lane about a block down Avenida Encinas, with a large Ralph's grocery store, Starbucks, Rite Aide, and numerous restaurants and small specialty markets and shops. All of this is a short walk, about 5 minutes. Bring your Costco card since there is also a Costco about a 5 minute drive from our home.
Description of the house
This is our second home; it is not a "rental property." The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. One bedroom and full bath are on the first floor and three bedrooms and two full baths are on the second floor. The house is fully air-conditioned. All bedrooms have cross-ventilation and ceiling fans (the primary bedroom has windows on all four sides).
The primary suite has a king bed, huge walk-in closet, and bath with oversized shower stall, soaking tub, and double sinks. The primary suite also has a sitting area with a comfortable couch and chair and 32 inch flat-screen TV. A balcony from the sitting area looks over the back patio and has a nice bench and comfortable cushions.
The second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed. The third bedroom upstairs has two twin beds and a Pac 'n' Play portable crib. There is a high chair for small children stored in the twin bedroom closet. The hall bathroom has a tub and shower. Also upstairs is a laundry room with a new high-efficiency washer and dryer. There is a second office upstairs in the hall alcove (see picture above); this is in addition to the office/fourth bedroom on the first floor. We both work at home while using the house in the two separate offices -- both of which are equipped with ethernet and Wi-Fi.
The house was completely remodeled in 2022. All of the furniture and beds in the house are in very good shape. The house is immaculate -- and we know that all of our guests will keep it that way. On the first floor, the bedroom has a desk and is used as an office by us and most of our guests (as shown in the picture above). It also has a queen bed that is very high-tech. It is a Frontgate bed that comes out of the closet, and when you plug it in, it unfolds to a complete queen bed on a platform -- it's incredibly comfortable, and nothing like a traditional "rollaway". There is a full bath with shower next to the first floor bedroom.
Even the bathrooms in our house have granite counter-tops. As you can see from the pictures, the kitchen is ultra modern with stainless steel appliances, granite counter-tops, and is fully equipped. We used to live near Santa Fe, New Mexico, and have hung lots of art from Santa Fe galleries in our Carlsbad home for you to enjoy.
The fireplace in the living room is only decorative. The living room has a new 55" flat screen TV, blu-ray DVD player, two couches and a comfortable chair. There is a two car garage, and outside the kitchen in the play area is a new built-in gas barbecue with built-in gas line -- so no canisters to worry
about.
Restrictions on rentals
No cats or dogs or other pets please -- we are highly allergic. We do not rent to groups of unattached people, reunions, meetings, weddings, parties, or anyone else who might disturb this family- and kid-friendly neighborhood. Our homeowner's association assesses severe fines for any disturbances -- we would pass along any such fines to guests if that occurred, although we expect that it will not. We must limit guests to a maximum of 8, and our home is most suitable for 6 people or less. There is a maximum of two cars per rental, both of which must be parked in the garage or in the enclosed part of the driveway, according to homeowners association rules (which are enforced with fines). Overnight street parking is severely limited by the homeowners association and subject to fines. There is no land-line phone in the house. We use our cell phones and our guests do, too.
Why did we buy this house?
We bought this house because we could not find a suitable rental in the San Diego area that was this close to the beach. We found that the rentals we experienced in this area left a lot to be desired and were over-priced, and not comparable to our house in luxury, technology, and convenience. The other rentals seemed like "investor" corporate properties that no one had ever lived in: Cheap furniture, no art on the walls, very limited cooking materials, no place to work, etc. So, we bought this house and created the ideal work/vacation house for ourselves and our family, and for you and your family.
We have a local property manager who is available to guests if anything goes wrong -- although the house is so perfect and well-maintained that we can't imagine that happening. We also have a cleaning crew that provides cleaning services during your rental and at the conclusion. It will be spotless when you arrive.
What does "Beachnut West" mean?
This name for our beach home in California is derived from one of our favorite beach houses in the country, "Beachnut," on Squam Road in the Wauwinet area of Nantucket, MA. We love that house and have rented it several times. So, we named our own house in California after it -- and because we love the beach!
For Southern California, this is an unusual location. You can walk everywhere. The beach is an 8- 10 minute walk. There is a major shopping center around the corner (5 minute walk) with grocery stores, bars, restaurants, drug stores, etc. The San Diego Coaster commuter train station is around the other corner, a 5 minute walk from our home.
The San Diego Coaster station is exactly a 5 minute walk from our house. It goes north to Oceanside and south to San Diego with stops in between. It also connects to Amtrak for trips to Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc. We use it all the time.

Complete privacy. There is a property manager if anything goes wrong at the house -- very unusual since we live there for months at a time ourselves and keep it in perfect condition. The gardener takes care of the grounds and the cleaning crew comes every two weeks and at the end of the rental. The entry door has an electronic lock for which you will have an exclusive combination. There is no interaction with the owners unless you need to text or call us with questions during your stay.
The convenience. Walk to the beach in 10 minutes. You can also walk 5 minutes to restaurants, bars, shopping, drug store, groceries, etc. You really don't need a car once you get here. The Coaster commuter train station is also 5 minute walk. An amazing place for SOCAL!
