Het contact met gastheer Jay was heel beperkt. Het was nodig expliciete vragen te stellen om informatie te krijgen. Ik vond het appartement slecht verlucht (raam kon niet open). De keuken gaf de indruk nooit schoongemaakt te zijn, kasten, deurklinken en keukengerief waren kleverig en soms vies. (Ik ben op dat vlak zelf niet veeleisend maar dit was over de limiet). Ook was het niet altijd gemakkelijk de deur van het appartement open te krijgen met de sleutel die Jay me had gegeven. Daar stond tegenover dat Jay wel gemakkelijk in omgang was en me toestond bv zijn USB-poort te gebruiken om mijn phone op te laden. Het grootste pluspunt van deze bnb is de ligging, rustig en tegelijk op 5 minuten van metrolijn 1-2-3 die je vanuit Upper West direct naar centrum Manhattan en Brooklyn brengt. De buurt voelde ook 's nachts heel veilig aan.

Jay was a great host, and the room was very easy to get to from the subway or bus. Was able to work remotely very easily. Park is right next door, and central park is a quick walk away. Lots of nearby great restaurants. Thanks Jay!

Response:Oscar was not a great guest. The room and apartment were thoroughly cleaned by my housekeeper before check-in. Apparently, he is upset because he encountered a roach somewhere in the apartment (a regular occurrence in any New York apartment as any New Yorker will tell you). He gave off an uncomfortable/unfriendly vibe during his stay and I would not recommend him to another host.

Good stay overall, a little messier than the photos but the room is fairly clean. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and the apartment is close to the subway station. Jay is nice, responsive when you need anything.

I spent 2,5 weeks at Jay‘s place and would overall rate it as a good stay. I booked last minute and Jay was very flexible and good in communication to make it work. Especially the location of the apartment is one of the perks, the Upper West Side is a beautiful residential area and since the apartment isn’t at a busy street I found it comparatively quiet (for New York). The subway station, is only a few minutes away and so is the Riverside Park and plenty of grocery shopping options. Check-in was simple and so was the communication during my stay. Jay responded within minutes and was always helpful and very nice. I had a friend visiting last minute and with notice in advance it was no problem at all that she stayed there as well. I also needed to store my luggage at the apartment until the end of the day the day of my departure, and that was no problem at all, which I highly appreciated The apartment and the room is exactly how portrayed in the pictures. The only thing bad worth mentioning is, that this might not be the perfect stay for you, if you like it clean. Jay did inform me before, that the living room area, which is not to be used by guests but passed through, will be somewhat messy but that the rest, especially the room, will be cleaned by a cleaner before the arrival. You could tell that the room was at the most superficially cleaned and so was kitchen and bathroom. I did stumble across a few cockroaches as well and found things and trash straggling in the room from previous guests. The apartment is not inexpensive for what you’re getting - but on the otherhand that’s New York. Overall, it’s a good option, especially if you’re traveling alone and if you don’t plan on spending a lot of time in the apartment anyway.
