The cottage has two bedrooms, both with Christopher Knight (tm) queen-sized beds for a great night's sleep and you can rent it as a one or two bedroom. Although we're walkable to many attractions, our street is tranquil and you'll enjoy sitting in a porch rocker with a glass of wine (in our varietal-correct Riedel glasses), or relaxing in the hammock.
COVID-19 INFORMATION: The Valley Wine Cottage is ready for you to shelter in a beautiful place! We do a complete cleaning and sanitize all surfaces between guests, including door knobs, light switches, etc. We have a 24-hour window between each guest as well. Due to Covid-19 almost all of the upscale restaurants in our area will deliver world class meals to the cottage or you can pick them up and enjoy them in the dining area inside the house or on the back deck. Newberg is also in Phase II so you may dine out if you prefer (many restaurants - which you can walk to - have outdoor seating, too!). We also provide a full kitchen for cooking, barbecue outside, etc. We provide masks, hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes for your stay.
Historic cottage built in 1920 with period-correct furnishings but with all of the comforts of a modern home. Fully appointed kitchen, laundry and outdoor spaces make this the ideal place to call home for a long weekend or extended trip. We provide all linens, fluffy towels and two luxurious robes in each bedroom. We also provide all toiletries including disposable razors, shaving cream, contact solution, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, sumptuous body lotion, etc. (Just in case you forget anything).
The house was fully renovated in 2017 with brand new central heat and air conditioning and a new large capacity water heater (for luxurious soaks in the restored clawfoot tub!) as well as completely new plumbing pipes throughout and electric wiring to support all your gadgets. You'll just feel like you stepped back in time, but you'll have all of the comforts of today (including lightening fast Fios Wi-Fi).

Policies and Rules
Each bedroom has it's own combination lock, so you may rent the house as a one-bedroom or as a two bedroom. If rented as a one-bedroom, the other bedroom door will remain locked and vacant during your stay.
No animals of any kind are allowed in the home for any length of time. This includes all types of pets, service animals, therapy dogs, emotional support peacocks, "allergen free" or non-shedding breeds, etc. The owner of the property is highly allergic, and we are maintaining this as an allergen-free home. (We also don’t use any harsh chemicals, and use all natural cleaning products). We have a "niche" market of very allergic guests that stay in the house (I'm one of them!), and even "hypo-allergenic" and non-shedding breeds cause a problem for those with severe allergies. We are listed on a special travel website for those with allergies and it's imperative that no animal is EVER in the house or on the grounds to stay on that list. If you bring an unauthorized animal you will be immediately evicted with no credit given for unused nights, you will forfeit your security deposit and a hypoallergenic steam cleaning fee of $1500.00 will be charged.
There is a Ring (tm) doorbell on the front door for the safety of the house and convenience of the guests. No other cameras on the property either inside or outside. Note that tampering with or blocking the camera is prohibited.
This home is perfect for long stays for visiting winemakers or wine distributors or traveling professionals.
Once you book, I will send a request through the portal for a $250 refundable security deposit, which you will need to click "accept" for. Once you check out and there are no damages it will be refunded within 14 days. Any damages or loss will be charged towards this deposit and if there is any balance due over and above the $250 we will request that additional amount from you and provide receipts, etc.
No animals of any kind are allowed in the home or on the property for ANY length of time. This includes pets, service animals, therapy dogs, emotional support peacocks, "allergen free" or non-shedding breeds, really small, really well-trained or really cute pets, etc. The owner of the property is highly allergic, and we are maintaining this as an allergen-free home. (We also don’t use any harsh chemicals, and use all natural cleaning products). Our allergen-sensitive guests appreciate knowing no pet has EVER stayed in the home.

Let’s try to unpack what happened:
1. The Thermostat: This house DOES NOT have a SMART thermostat. We have zero control over what temperature each guest choses to set the temperature at. Both our check-in instructions message, sent 24 hours before arrival, and our welcome message, sent a little bit after check-in time, have this sentence: “The clipboard on the desk in the living room has our house manual, which has all sorts of fascinating information like how to control the heat and a/c …” There is also a placard on top of the thermostat with complete instructions how to use the thermostat. Also the messages the night before check-in and an hour after check-in also give my cell phone number to each guest and say “please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.” I honestly don’t know what else we could have done to educate Amy about how to control the temperature. It was working fine and Amy was welcome to set it at whatever temperature she wanted to and failed to do so. (She complained because on a 92 degree day the house was 74 degrees – which is exactly what SHE set the thermostat at). She could have called and we would have helped her. Oregon also has lovely cool evenings even on the hottest nights, with no humidity, so she could have opened windows to cool it down quicker.
I am completely available to our guests EVERY WAKING MOMENT (note that almost EVERY review specifically mentions how responsive we are), We are always happy to help guests with anything in the house they’re unsure about and since my husband’s shop is six blocks away he is also happy to pop over at moment’s notice if you want in-person assistance.
2. Regarding the astronomical charge of $20 for an entire second bedroom that was SPRUNG on Amy the day of her arrival – what happened!!? If you’re reading this you’ve likely already read the description of the house, and you have undoubtedly noticed this sentence in the “The Space” section: “You may rent the cottage as a one-bedroom or as a two-bedroom unit. (If rented as a one-bedroom the second bedroom will remain vacant and locked during your stay). The default pricing for 2 guests is one bedroom, so if you're a party of 2 that would like to use both bedrooms just let me know and we can send you a request for the extra $20 per night to add the second bedroom.” This message is also reiterated in the house rules, which each guest acknowledges they have read prior to booking. This message is also in our “Confirmation of Booking” notification each guest receives right after booking. This message was also in the email I sent Amy 2 weeks before her check-in. This message was also in our guest book that we emailed to Amy 2 weeks before her check-in. This message was also in the check-in instructions message she received 24 hours prior to her check-in. But because – by her own admission -- Amy only noticed this on the day of her check-in, she felt bamboozled. Amy did pay the fee and used both bedrooms, but then after her check-out she disputed it – which was denied by Airbnb as this is a usual, customary and proper charge that was completely transparent before and after booking. This is so an individual or a couple who sleeps together in one bed can rent The Valley Wine Cottage without having to pay the full fee for both bedrooms. For two bedrooms the insurance is more, the cleaning is more, there is more laundry, etc. We actually pass this savings on to you by allowing a couple to rent the house by keeping that second room locked.
3. Every other review mentions the beautiful furnishings. The cottage is period correct, both with the copper kitchen in the ceiling, the crown molding, the original claw foot tub, and the furnishings. If you’re looking for modular glass and steel than this isn’t the house for you.
4. Our very comprehensive guest book is one of the things other reviews mention as a benefit. We tell you the history of the town, all kinds of places to eat and drink, even hot air ballooning and a house call doctor! Because our town still requires us to keep the house vacant for 24 hours before we can even have the housekeeper enter we ask for the following check-out instructions: 1: Take out any wet garbage; 2: close the windows and lock the doors; 3: hang wet towels on hooks. That’s it! No bed stripping, no cleaning. Not quite sure why Amy had a problem with this …
If you have any questions about fees or policies prior to booking or any questions about how things in the house work after booking with us, please don’t hesitate to message me and we can chat about it. We are very transparent, we give our direct phone numbers to our booked guests and love to do everything in our power to make guests have the best visit!
