The price listed is for 2 guests with an upcharge for 3 to 4.

Let us know about children. We charge for infants. Must be listed as child or guest in request to reserve.
We are located on Hancock Point, in Hancock, between Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, 45 minutes away, and Acadia N.P. on Schoodic Point, 25 minutes away. There are 4 guest cottages on the 6 acre property and I live here as well.

Sweetfern Cottage is wheelchair friendly. It has many accessibility features but you must have a car than can handle the dirt road. Please let us know if you are disabled, before you make a reservation.

The entrance is wide and there is a ramp. The bedroom door is wide enough for a wheelchair and there is room to maneuver it in the bedroom. The bathroom has enough clearance to turn a wheelchair around and includes an ADA sink and toilet with grab bars. The tub is standard but there is a transition tub chair and grab bars are installed. The tub has a handheld shower head.

There is one bedroom and there is a futon sleeper sofa in the living area. The kitchen is complete with gas range and a small office type refrigerator.

Renters with disabilities must speak with me (or email) so we can talk about accessibility and driving to the cottage which is at the end of a dirt track, and parking.

Pet owners must speak with me (or email me). We allow crate trained pets for an extra fee.

Suzanne's cabin was neat and cozy. The location was perfect for what I was looking for. I was just close enough to Acadia National Park to feel comfortable with a daily drive, but far enough out of the way to feel like I had an avenue of escape from the large crowds. Suzanne herself was extremely responsive and was happy to share some excellent suggestions. I would gladly stay at one of her properties again.

Our stay at Suzanne's cottage was enchanting! Tucked beside Acadia, it offered the perfect blend of coziness, cleanliness, and quietude. The cottage, relatively new, exuded a fresh charm and was impeccably maintained, making our stay comfortable. The host's fine arts in the cottage added a sophisticated touch, creating a unique and artistic atmosphere. The on-site trails through the woods allows us to immerse ourselves in nature's serenity. Don't miss the nearby Salt Pond Preserve trail; the sunrise views over the ocean without the crowd were absolutely breathtaking. Mornings were especially enchanting as the fields were veiled in a gentle morning fog, creating a mystical aura. And as night fell, the sky adorned itself with countless stars, inviting us to stargaze and lose ourselves in the vastness of the universe. Suzanne's attention to detail and responsiveness were remarkable. Her comprehensive instructions ensured a seamless experience, showcasing her commitment to guest comfort.

We had a wonderful stay at Sweetfern Cabin! Highlights included eating breakfast on the porch swing, stargazing at night, and playing board games in the cozy living room. It’s the perfect Maine getaway close to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but far enough away that it feels private and secluded and a great place to come home to at the end of the day.

We absolutely loved staying at Sweetfern Cottage! It is as it does in the listing. It was nice to have a quiet place to escape to after hiking Acadia all day. The cottage is about a 40 minute drive to Acadia. There is also a quick trail that you can do around the cottage itself. I would definitely recommend staying at Suzanne’s place!

We had a wonderful time at Sweetfern cottage! Waking up to deer in the front yard and feeling the fresh air coming through the windows was truly blissful. We enjoyed local sights by Suzanne’s recommendations and took a few day trips so Bar Harbor/Acadia, which were ~40 minutes away. Coming home to the cottage each evening made this a journey we’d like to take again with our family in the future! Thank you for everything, Suzanne. 🙏

We stayed at the cottage and had outings to Acadia each day. It required a little bit of driving to reach the park but was fairly close. We were able to enjoy privacy at the cottage which was very clean and had all amenities we could need. Our pup was very happy with the accommodations and spent some time running through the (early June) short fields. Overall, one of the best locations we’ve stayed and can’t recommend enough!

My wife and I had a great stay at Sweetfern Cottage while meeting and spending time with our son and daughter in law who were camping at Blackwoods Campground. The cottage was just as described, clean, cozy, and perfect for what we needed for this trip. Suzanne was available if needed and quickly responded to questions, but also gave us our space to enjoy our stay. It is evident, by the way the cottage is set up, that Suzanne is a caring, considerate host. We would definitely stay in one of Suzanne’s cottages again and would recommend Sweetfern to others.

This was our second stay at the Sweetfern Cottage. It was just as nice as our first time. We did notice that when we first checked the bathroom, there was quite a bit of toilet paper in the toilet that we had to flush. Not sure if it was from a previous cleaning or use prior to our arrival. Also, because of the location guests should be advised of the abundance of ticks. When Suzanne came to meet us, she was wearing high rubber boots because of ticks. Although we parked right in front of the cottage with a just a few steps from our car to the porch, I found a tick on my sock. Otherwise the place is a quiet refuge from busy days out exploring.
Response:Gosh, I'm so sorry about the toilet paper. That is very odd and not at all normal. I always always leave the toilet sparkling clean. I have no idea what happened there, but I will speak to the young lady who helps me clean. Yes, it is a very bad tick year. I do not spray anything toxic, to humans or bees, around the cottages. However I do not prevent my renters from using sprays on themselves and their clothing and I encourage you to come prepared.

The cottage was in a beautiful quiet setting. It was immaculately kept and the perfect size. Suzanne’s communication was prompt. She even stopped in to chat. I wish I could have loaded up the cottage and brought it back to Ohio! We loved it so much we didn’t want to come home.

Cottage Notes

Gouldsboro Clinic: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) walk in care 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Maine Coast Memorial Hospital: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) hr. emergency care, 7 days. Fire, Ambulance Notes
Ambulance, Police: 911 emergencies only.

We leave some basic supplies in the Cottage; T.P, soap, shampoo, garbage bags, coffee filters, and roll of paper towels. The kitchen almost always has a selection of spices available; salt and pepper for sure and a variety of other things. We do not supply any breakfast items but feel free to use anything in the fridge or cupboards. The kitchen is small but complete, including gas range, microwave, coffee maker, etc., as well as pots pans, dishes and utensils. Also, a gas grill outside. We supply all linens and towels. There is a washer and a dryer.

Use caution while opening and closing sash windows. They are heavy and fall down quickly. Use the brass fastener or the stick to keep them open.

If you need to have the high up window opened or closed, Suzanne will be glad to come over and do it. Do not try to open or close it yourself.

We will keep you supplied with firewood and kindling for indoor fires. If you need more, don’t hesitate to let us know. If you need help with the woodstove, let us know.

Outside fire pit fires are sometimes permitted depending on fire danger, but must be discussed with me. It is not safe to remove partially burned wood or coals from fire pit, but fires should be doused in the pit at the end of the evening

Garbage goes outside in the garbage and returnables hutch. Place it in cans. Returnable beverage containers with deposits go in plastic boxes in the front facing part of the hutch. Do not put your ashes in the garbage as it could start a fire.

Please do not leave the electric heaters on, in the summer months, when you are out. Please be careful with the fire place fires. Ask for help if you need it. There is no need to clean out the stove. Do not remove wood or coals from the stove for any reason. It is not safe to do so.

For a quick injection of heat you can turn on the oven (use the overhead fan to keep heat downstairs). Please remember to turn the oven off before you leave.

You can pick berries in the field and along the paths. Feel free to walk past the other cottages on the fileldroad and mowed paths. There is a walking path that eventually leads to some woods trails. Always check yourself and your children for ticks when you return.

If you notice that the plants are droopy please water them. I will leave a couple full watering cans.

There is no need to lock the door when you leave for good. In fact it is easier for us if you don’t.

Fill out a comment sheet before you leave. Let us know if you need anything. Have a great time!
