Tyn-Y-Simdde (Chimney Cottage) is a serene mountainside retreat, rich with history and charm nestled high in the Eryri/Snowdonia National Park.
Its name reflects its storied past, with "Tyn-y-Simdde" once describing a smallholding distinguished by its chimneys—a rare feature in the 1700s. Perched at the end of a private track, offering unmatched seclusion, this cottage overlooks the breathtaking Hermon Valley, with sweeping views toward Cader Idris that make you feel truly atop the mountain.
Inside, the cottage reflects its storied past with a cosy living room, two spacious bedrooms (king, double, and single), and a fully equipped kitchen. Simple yet enchanting, it’s the perfect escape into the wilderness.
While remote, it’s not off-grid—WiFi and modern amenities are provided to ensure a comfortable stay.
Ground Floor:
Kitchen/Diner: Fully equipped with a fridge-freezer, washing machine, toaster and everything you need to prepare meals. A dining area features a table, chairs, and an electric fire for a cosy atmosphere.
Living Area: Relax by the log burner (basket of logs provided, with additional available to order) on one of two comfy sofas. Entertainment includes a TV/DVD player, a HiFi system that plays CDs, functions as a Bluetooth speaker, and a landline telephone for convenience (mobile reception can be sporadic).
First Floor:
Bedroom 1: Spacious room with a king-size bed.
Bedroom 2: Features both a double and a single bed, perfect for families or groups.
Bathroom: A compact but functional shower room.
Outside:
Surrounded by a fenced lawned garden, the cottage provides stunning mountain views and a safe space for pets when the gate is closed. An outdoor table and chairs make alfresco dining a delight, whether enjoying the sunrise with coffee or stargazing under clear night skies. The property also offers parking for 2–3 cars.
This cottage blends historic charm with modern comforts, making it a perfect home base for mountain biking, hiking, or simply savouring the tranquil beauty of Eryri, offering the perfect base to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature.
Guests have full access to the entire cottage, including the private patio and surrounding hillside garden. The property is at the end of a private track, offering complete seclusion. Parking for two cars is available directly outside the cottage. While remote, it’s not off-grid—WiFi and modern amenities are provided to ensure a comfortable stay.
There's an unmade track to the cottage, which is bumpy, so please take care.

A car is essential for making the most of your stay at Tyn-Y-Simdde (Chimney Cottage). The property is located at the end of a private track, offering unmatched seclusion, but its remote mountainside setting means public transport is not available. With a car, you can easily explore nearby attractions like Cader Idris, Coed y Brenin Forest Park, and the stunning Snowdonia coastline, all within a short drive. Parking is available on-site for 2–3 vehicles.
This property is perfect for nature lovers seeking to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. The mountain air, wildlife, and vast night skies create a magical setting. While secluded, the coast is only a 20-minute drive, blending rugged wilderness with easy seaside access.
The Wifi provided runs at 8-15 Mbps and is subject to disruption in truly adverse weather. Mobile signal is also intermittent in the area.
There is a TV (with DVD player & DVD's) available for your use at the cottage. This can also be connected to streaming services to use with your own account. Terrestrial TV channels are not available.
Pet Policy:
- Pets are welcome at Tyn Y Simdde (Chimeny Cottage). Adding pets to your booking is an additional fee of £25.
- We allow a maximum of 2 pets at the property (for 2+ pets, please get in touch with us before booking)
- Please keep dogs on leads and away from the livestock in the neighbouring fields, being respectful of the local farmers and their livestock.

Policies and Rules
Dogs are not permitted on the furniture or beds.
Owners of pets are responsible for any damage at the property and for cleaning dog litter from the grounds.
No smoking in the house. Fires are not permitted in the grounds due to forest location.
The water is supplied from a private spring, so please use it sparingly during dry weather.
Tyn-y-Simdde has Wi-Fi broadband. The Wi-Fi is by no means quick by modern standards, but this is as good as it gets given the remote location. Expected speed is 8-15 mpbs.
The mobile phone reception at the cottage is virtually non-existent, depending on your provider.
