The boat ramp is only a half mile down the hill, so bring your own boat, or take a 15 min drive to Wax Marina to rent one for your stay. We're also close driving distance to Blue Holler Off-Road Park, Trout Fishing and Mammoth Cave National Park.
This cozy cabin is a traditional A-frame that sits atop the hill at the end of Whippoorwill Way in Hardin's Landing just off Dog Creek in Cub Run at Nolin Lake. Outside you'll enjoy a tranquil and peaceful retreat where you can listen to the sounds of the Whippoorwills calling through the trees, and peaceful evenings with your friends and family grilling and chilling around the fire pit. You can see the glimmer of the water through the trees on some fall and winter days.
As you enter the home, there's a well-equipped laundry room as well as a generously sized full bathroom. Down the hall is the first bedroom with two twin beds (that can be converted to a king) as well as a nice desk with a large monitor to plug in your laptop or other device.
Also on this floor is the cozy living and dining area with access to the sitting porch overlooking a forested hillside, along with a small kitchen with a breakfast bar and an entertainment area with a record player with Bluetooth capability, as well as a collection of games and books. You can bring your own records or gently use our offerings. Our Roku TV is ready for you to sign into your accounts and binge to your heart's desire.
Upstairs you'll find the remaining three sleeping areas. These are designated as "bedrooms" in the listing in order to be individually featured in our photo tour. While it is a contiguous space, it is well separated into three distinct sleeping areas, and there are room dividers and a sound machine for extra privacy and comfort. The king and queen bed sleeping areas are across the stairs from one another, while the twin trundle section with the picture window is in an offset space at the front of the A-frame.
Currently there is one large wall unit and another window unit air conditioner installed in the upstairs of the property. There are multiple fans throughout the home, and supplemental air conditioning unit is available in the living area in the summer.
In the winter, we currently utilize the propane wall heater. There are also a few small space heaters if supplemental heating is needed, which is rare.
The exterior spaces of the home include a couple of seating areas, a picnic/grilling area, and a firepit with a grill grate for additional grilling space. We try to keep firewood available, but we can't guarantee it, or that it will be in great supply. If you plan on utilizing the firepit, please think ahead. If you need a large firewood delivery, that can be arranged for you at an additional cost. There are also areas in town where firewood bundles can be purchased.
If you plan on using the charcoal grill, please bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid, and be prepared to clean it while you're heating it up. On occasion. people will leave these things behind, but we can't guarantee they'll be there for you. Think of it as a park style grill.
This property is not lake front, but depending on the season we do have a lake view... You can usually catch a glimmer through the trees to the Northeast. We have a lovely forest and ridgeline view, and some *spectacular* sunsets. It is just a few minutes walk down the hill to the public boat ramp and water access at Hardin's Landing. There are private docks there, but they're not public access.
The home is close to many local attractions. The Green River ferry to Mammoth Cave National Park just a 15 minute drive. Blue Holler Off-Road Park is also nearby. The home is only 10 minutes from the Detwilers Amish market complex and Deli. It's a great place to go roam around and get a quick lunch and ice cream or pastries. In that area is also convenient shopping for supplies in "downtown" Cub Run. Bouys at the Lodge is a great restaurant/bar at Wax Marina that has live music some nights and is only about a 15 min drive if you want an afternoon or night out. There's also a new Dollar General market just around the corner from Wax.
As mentioned, this home sits atop a beautiful hill at the end of a graveled private drive with a somewhat steep ascent on the last curve. And while our real estate agent made it up with no trouble with her late model Honda Civic, please keep in mind *your own* comfort with your driving abilities and the capabilities of your vehicle. Seasonal weather affects the road conditions here, and this should ALWAYS be taken into account when driving to remote areas. And while we take extra efforts to keep our property and its private drive highly accessible, the trip up the hill could be a little stressful for some more timid drivers. Our advice to you is to just keep going! Once you are headed up that hill, **don't stop.** If a 15-year-old Honda Civic, Amazon deliveries, and a heavily laden Lowe's appliance delivery truck can make it, so can you!!
The water heater in this property is relatively small. In the warmer months when the groundwater is warm, you may not experience this, but if the groundwater is cooler, you may have to give the water heater a few minutes to catch up when taking back to back showers, or using the outdoor and indoor showers simultaneously.
LASTLY, because this is a very rural area, we occasionally experience "Boil Water Advisories." We like to bring our own bottled water just in case, and we advise our guests to do the same. Normally these advisories are out of an abundance of caution. However, we advise you play it safe. If we get a notice, we will let you know as soon as possible. You can also check the Edmondson County Water company for their updates before And during your travel.
The home is yours to enjoy while you're there. Because this is also our family's own personal getaway, you could find a multitude of unopened non-perishable items in our pantry cabinet, or find squeezable condiments etc in the refrigerator. Feel free to use whatever you need. We like to keep lots of staple items in the property since it is more remote. If you need to use any pantry items or finish off s condiment, etc, just let us know so we can replace it.
Throughout the home we keep individual Tupperware storage of our bed linens, some extra bedding and blankets, as well as other supplies like bug spray, extra light bulbs, and other things that we need to keep around for the upkeep of the property, as well as some of our seasonal items. We do kindly ask that you don't tamper with our seasonal items specifically. Those gnomes like to stay in their Tupperware homes until the appropriate time of the year.
We live in Louisville, so we're not too far away, but you will likely not encounter us on the property unless there is a necessity that we make a visit. While we always try to give a "heads up" regarding any kind of maintenance or site visits by any of our cleaning or maintenance personnel, there are sometimes situations which necessitate visits from these individuals. Often, the weather can dictate the schedule that property maintenance can be done, and this is largely out of our control. And while we try our best not to disturb our guests with these visits, occasionally you might meet one or two of our crew.
We also have very friendly neighbors, some of whom might come up the hill on their 4x4 just to say "Hello!" They may have their pets with them, as this is a pet friendly property, and a pet friendly neighborhood. Please don't be alarmed-- the natives are friendly!!
We pride ourselves on the sense of community here, and while everyone strives to give each other their peace and quiet, we also take care of one another and check up on each other's properties from time to time. Please don't be alarmed if you hear an unfamiliar motor coming up the drive. That being said, please respect the sanctity of the peace and quiet of nature and our neighbors. Quiet time begins at 10:30 p.m.
And just so that you are aware, there's a large farm to the left at the top of the hill as you make the final right hand curve to turn towards our property. It is home to a beautiful big white fluffy dog that could make his presence known visually, and perhaps with a few distant barks. So far this gentle giant has kept it's distance, and has never come onto our property, or even crossed the fence line. However, the fence is just a simple farm fence, and our visitors should be aware of his presence. We advise you to *please* not let your pets roam. Please leash your pets-- We *require* you to keep them under your immediate control when outdoors. We cannot be held responsible for your pet or any other animals that might roam on our property or in the surrounding areas.
This is a rural and highly wooded area. There are natural predators in our woods including coyotes, snakes and maybe even the stray bear (you never know!). And while it's unlikely that you will encounter one of these creatures, the chance is not zero. Please take it under advisement.
There are also several kitties that we've seen on our camera at night, and who might take up a temporary spot on the entry porch, but they can be a little timid, so sightings are unlikely.
Hopefully we've covered everything in all of the other sections, but just in case you missed it, the gist is to just be aware that this is a rural and wooded property. You can encounter bugs, wildlife, poison ivy etc, just any other untamed wilderness area.
This home is atop a picturesque hill, and the last haul to the top can be a little imposing. Be aware of your vehicle's capabilities as this driveway has some areas of around 15° grade. We haven't had issues with our 2008 Scion xB, and my real estate agent's late model Honda Civic made it up with no issue. Be aware of your *own* comfort with these kind of road conditions. This hill can be a little dicey, especially in poor weather. ❤️🩹
We strive to give you the most comfortable and cozy getaway. Keeping the "Gnome Home" mentality in mind is important to understanding what you will get when you visit our little getaway. There is no dishwasher, so if you're not a fan of washing dishes, we recommend bringing disposable items.
Keep in mind the *very real* safety issues for toddlers or young children. There's no way to secure a gate at the top of the stairs, and the home is not childproofed. We also live on the top a beautiful hill, and there are some steep areas surrounding the home.
Prepare to expect the unexpected... We're in *deep* woods, and bugs are just a fact of life. We spray the property and the surrounding areas regularly, but as Jurassic Park taught us, Life Will Find A Way... And occasionally that's into the home!! We try our VERY best to set you up for success, but this is a remote and somewhat rustic lake cabin. You might just think of it as "glamping" on steroids!

Policies and Rules
Check in and check out times are flexible, depending on the schedule of our cleaning crew and the availability of the property. We are happy to discuss late checkouts or even booking additional half days to make your long weekend a little bit longer.
Failure to adhere to these rules, or any of the other listed house rules could result in your eviction without refund.
Because our home is situated at the end of a long private drive, we do not have trash pickup *at* the house. Our main trash can is at the bottom of Sean's Pass, where it meets up with Martin Pierce Road. There is a line of trash cans there, and our can is spray painted gold with the address on the lid.
There is a small trash bin outside of the property to collect trash during your stay. Please make sure to *only put bagged trash* into this bin, as you must take it down the hill with you when you leave. Please remove any excess trash during your stay to the can at the bottom of the hill at your earliest convenience, and please take *any and all trash* with you to that MAIN CAN at the bottom of the hill at checkout. We have provided large black contractor bags to ensure that this is an easy process for our guests. It's especially important that excess food waste does not stay in the outside bin for very long, as that can attract wildlife and bugs.
PET POLICY:
At this time, WE CAN ONLY accommodate up to two dogs with a total Max weight limit of 50 lb. This "Gnome Home" is a cozy space, so unfortunately we just don't have the room to accommodate multiple large animals. All pets must be crated when you leave, or you must take them with you. They must be leashed and under your control at all times when outdoors. Failure to comply with our pet policies or to pay pet fees for each pet could result in the termination of your booking with no refund.
Currently there is only one mid-sized crate in the property, so please be prepared to bring anything larger, or secondary crate if you need to. You should bring appropriate pet beds and blankets for your fur babies. Please do not allow them on the furniture or in the beds. Excess amounts of pet fur, pet waste accidents or other damages will result in extra charges. We do provide sticky rollers and other fur removal tools for your convenience. PLEASE pick up after your pet. No one likes to step in a pile of poo while they're trying to enjoy our outdoor areas! We ask that you bring your own pet waste bags, but we do try to leave extra grocery bags in the property in case you've forgotten, and we encourage you to leave your extra bags there as well. It's best to put pet waste bags in with larger bags of trash when you take them out... It's pretty hard to fish them out of the bottom of our outdoor bin.
Please put the AC units on 76 and on "Econ" mode when you leave the home for the day, or at checkout. Do not leave doors or windows open when you leave or while any heaters or A/C units are running. If you are using the supplemental unit in the downstairs area, upon checkout, please remove the window vent from the window, turn the unit off completely, and secure and lock the windows. If you are running the air conditioner units, please do not leave doors and windows open. Like "Mama" always says, we are not trying to heat or cool the outdoors! Lastly, screen doors and window screens are there to keep pests out, so please don't prop those open.
We allow smoking or vaping **outside of the property**, but ask that you please step away from the entry doors if you choose to smoke. We've provided a metal sand bucket receptacle for butts. At the end of your stay, please remove all your butts with the provided scoop and place them into a trash bag to be removed with the general trash. PLEASE BE SURE all cigarettes are fully extinguished before placing them into any trash receptacles. Fire is a VERY real hazard here, AND WE WANT TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO AVOID IT.
FIREPIT AND GRILL SAFETY AND CARE:
The use of the fire pit and grill is at your own risk!! We cannot be responsible for any accidents regarding the use of either of these amenities. Please FULLY extinguish the fire pit and grill before going to bed or leaving the property. FOREST OR PROPERTY FIRE IS A REAL POSSIBILITY IF THIS IS NOT DONE. This is one of the major reasons that we have a camera in this area. We provide a *labeled plastic* bucket for water as an extinguisher.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE PLASTIC BUCKET TO REMOVE HOT COALS OR ASHES. IT WILL MELT, AND COULD CAUSE INJURIES.
A METAL ASH BUCKET and scoop are there to clean out these areas safely. Only dump the ash bucket when you are 100% sure that it is fully extinguished. FULLY extinguished ashes can be dumped in the areas surrounding the fire pit, but please be careful.
Like a public park, the fire pit and charcoal grill is "as you find it." We do appreciate our guests cleaning up after themselves with these amenities.
RAMP AND DOCKS:
Hardin's Landing ramp is a public access ramp. Please familiarize yourself with ramp etiquette, and make sure that you understand that at the busiest times of year, there could be a line to put in or take out. Make sure you factor that in to your checkout times specifically. The docks at Hardin's Landing and all neighborhood docks on Nolin Lake are private, and are not for the use of any rental guests. The "dockmaster" for Hardin's Landing lives at the bottom of the hill and they are *very diligent* about this. Please keep this in mind. You could be ticketed and fined by the Army Corps of Engineers if you're found to be trespassing on private docs or misusing the space.
To sum it up, please strive to treat our property and the neighborhood with the same respect as you would if you were staying with a friend. If you have any questions at all, we're always happy to answer.
50% refund of the nightly booking cost, and the refund of your cleaning and pet fees up to 30 days before booking.
25% refund of the nightly booking cost and the refund of your cleaning and pet fees up to 14 days before booking.
Past 14 days before your booking, your cleaning fee will be refunded, but no refunds of the nightly rates are available.
Outside of these cancellation policies, there are no refunds unless our property is inaccessible (road is blocked by impassible and immovable debris, or the roads are deemed impassable due to extreme weather), or we determine the property is uninhabitable due to mechanical or structural failure.
It is highly recommended that you purchase Independent travel insurance, or book with a credit card that includes travel insurance as one of its benefits. Familiarize yourself with those benefits before booking.
