If you've heard of Ajijic (on Lake Chapala), you know about its near perfect climate. If you know how to pronounce it (Aheeheek), you probably know why it is a favored destination for snow birds, sunbirds and ex-pats. Here, you can enjoy and afford the good life with a Mexican twist. Within walking distance to the colorful village of Ajijic, El Dorado offers the finest resort style living in the area. Although the gated community is safe, there is a professional 24 hour security team. My home is a fairly large single family villa on one level with additional outdoor living space plus a covered roof top mirador. Streaming with sunlight on all sides, the open floor plan creates a feeling of spaciousness. The two bedrooms and marble en suite bathrooms flank each wing offering privacy should you have overnight guests. Excellent mattresses with dense foam toppers and high-quality bedding insure you comfortable sleep. The fully equipped kitchen has everything from a coffee grinder for brewing local organic coffee, to a Magic Bullet for making refreshing smoothies. Or pop your gmo free popcorn for movie night. Of course there's a microwave for reheating the leftovers from last nights dinner at Adelita's or any of the many other outstanding restaurants. Clean, purified water is supplied with a six stage filtration system including reverse osmosis. The entertainment center with a large flat screen TV (Programming with Amazon Firestick) and DVD player have surround sound. Dine al fresco with seating for six at a round table on the back covered terrace. The soothing, bubbling fountain, fragrant jasmine and gardenia are sure to please your senses. Maybe it's time to spread out that jig saw puzzle or take a nap on the outdoor chaise lounge. Or invite friends for a game of bridge. Relax on the rooftop mirador reading a book with a glass of vino and catch those awesome sunsets over the lake and mountains.

“Relaxing, productive oasis ”
Casa El Dorado was a wonderful place to relax and regain my sanity during this challenging year. Doing yoga on the mirador, watching the sunset from the pool, wandering through town, or eating on one of the town's open air terraces, I felt safe, clean, and far from life's challenges. I was also able to easily maintain my work schedule remotely with fast internet and local services. Ajijic is a colorful town with farmer's markets and vegan restaurants hidden among its other gems; Lake Chapala is gorgeous; and heading to the nearby city of Chapala just increases your chances of happening on something you need, want, or fancy. Arlene's Casa is a great, protected base for many kinds of quiet adventures.

Wonderful Stay!
My wife and I truly enjoyed our four month stay in early 2020. We felt at home immediately due to the home furnishings and ambience.The Casa layout is superb especially since the two bedrooms are in opposite ends of the house allowing for more privacy when/if guests visit. Two bonuses are the spacious infinity pool nearby and the rooftop mirador with the 270 degree panoramic view where you can see both the sunrise and incredible sunsets or enjoy a margarita in the late afternoon breeze.

We stayed for Six months In Arlene’s lovely house. The home is everything you could want in a vacation rental, nicely furnished and well equipped.. The house is in a secure gated community with excellent amenities. The neighbours are friendly and helpful. Arlene was responsive to to any requests and gave us lots of local information. I would recommend this home to anyone wishing to explore this area.

An absolutely beautiful residence in El Dorado, the best gated community in the entire area.
Casa 50 in El Dorado is beautifully furnished with the highest quality furniture and appliances as well as local artwork throughout. Located on a corner, it provides privacy which makes relaxing on the patio with a cool drink and enjoying the fountain with the hummingbirds arriving for water all the more pleasant. As an added bonus, it is located just across from the Club House and swimming pool, tennis courts, library and party room with kitchen. For shopping, a Walmart is only about a couple of blocks away. This is a BIG advantage. Just before the Walmart is a shopping center where you can purchase takeout food so you don't have to spend your time cooking. There is a renter's guidebook in the house with useful information on where to obtain various goods and services. I found the most useful to me was being able to hire a car and driver who speaks English at very low cost, compared to the USA or Canada. I was familiar with the area from previous trips, but the last one was ten years ago and the area has changed so much I didn't recognize it. I'm compelled to say this has not been for the better. Elegant, quiet and peaceful then, it has become crowded, noisy and lined with shoulder to shoulder junky little shops and traffic jams. The Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic is still much the same but is now very hard to find your way there. My comments, although probably not what VRBO wants to hear, they are nevertheless accurate. S. Guest for one week from San Diego
My stay was excellent. Beautiful home with all the amenities one could ask for. The breeze off the lake was lovely. Great location for walking, catching local buses etc. Lots of fun restaurants in area. A great deal to do in this typical Mexican Village. Organic market and open market were fun and exciting. Always a festival of some sort or civic event to attend near by. The malecon is terrific for strolling, jogging, walking and sitting. A 5 star property for sure.

House in El Dorado
My wife and i had a pleasant stay in arlene's well- equipped house in El Dorado, a gated community on the outskirts of Ajijic. The house was spacious having 2 bedrooms ( one double bed in each) and 2. bathrooms. We enjoyed the small garden with a fountain and the lovely views from the rooftop terrace.in spite of the short cut into town( a rough path behind the complex) we found we needed a car because we felt the path unsafe at night and taxis were not always available. Additionally, it was hard to manage the hill with groceries. However, once we had a car, there was no problem.

Response:Since taxis are not always available, I always suggest identifying a driver or taxi you like and call them when needed. In the house manual, there are cards of several drivers who offer reasonable rates and are cooperative about making themselves available when needed. I will make that more prominent for future guests. The bed in the master is actually a Mexican queen which is a bit narrower than an American queen but the US sheets fit it fine.

Beautiful Lake view, well appointed home.
We spent six months in this lovely home. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need, and much much more. We spent a lot of time on the covered patio enjoying the lake view and fountain. The light on the patio made it a great place for me to paint. Views are exceptional up in the Mirador. Many photos were shared with friends from the rooftop. The neighborhood is beautiful and the streets are slate, so they are good for walking. We recommend this lovely home with it's close proximity to restaurants, food shopping and many other services.

Wonderful home, a true treasure
We rented this lovely home for a month, and will say that it more than met our expectations. It is fully equipped with a gourmet kitchen and wonderful outside spaces to enjoy the warm afternoons and wonderful evenings. The gardens are full of tropical delights- even pomegranates and lemons. It is a perfect location for exploring the area, a car is not really necessary as you can walk to the grocery store, the fish market the wine store etc. The buses are good and cabs are not to expensive.It is a lovely walk to Ajijic , a bit longer to Chapala, but there is a great walking lane/bike lane all along the lake. Great restaurants in Ajijic after walking and sightseeing the outside areas at the casa are very welcome quiet spaces. can't say enough about what a great place this is. The owner was most helpful and provided us with a wealth of information- we would definitely recommend this property

A Little Spot in Paradise
El Dorado is a well-guarded closed community of some 60 villas of all shapes and sizes in traditional Mexican style, all with well-kept gardens of tropical flowers, palms, and friendly neighbours! A fair walking distance from a movie theatre, food, Casino, medical clinics, buses and Walmart, but to enjoy Mexico you need a car. Or perhaps a horse? We rented Arlene's Casa for a year, a perfect place to decide if Mexico is meant for you. Casa #50 has a fine view of the lake especially from the mirador. It is always light and airy, always a cool breeze off the lake even on the hottest days. It is quite well stocked with everything in every sense with good closets. The large bedroom, living and dinning rooms all have full walk out screened doors onto the patio, with lake views. the smaller bedroom bedroom looks over the cactus garden, carport, and tennis courts. There is a gas fireplace for the chilly evenings to relax by. From the mirador, the panorama of Lake Chapala and the mountains on its South shore is spectacular. East & West the North shore looks almost European in places. Behind are more mountains, a few exclusive condos, an infinity pool and clubhouse. I am not a "birder", but this would be a birder's paradise. The dawn chorus starts at 6:30am and a fascinating variety of birdsongs last throughout the day. Birds I have never seen before. There are alway birds to watch on the patio, especially if you fuel a hummingbird feeder. We had a hummingbird's nest on the mirador the size of a walnut! You will not be disappointed. Guest for one week from San Diego

My stay was excellent. Beautiful home with all the amenities one could ask for. The breeze off the lake was lovely. Great location for walking, catching local buses etc. Lots of fun restaurants in area. A great deal to do in this typical Mexican Village. Organic market and open market were fun and exciting. Always a festival of some sort or civic event to attend near by. The malecon is terrific for strolling, jogging, walking and sitting. A 5 star property for sure.

House in El Dorado

My wife and i had a pleasant stay in arlene's well- equipped house in El Dorado, a gated community on the outskirts of Ajijic. The house was spacious having 2 bedrooms ( one double bed in each) and 2. bathrooms. We enjoyed the small garden with a fountain and the lovely views from the rooftop terrace.in spite of the short cut into town( a rough path behind the complex) we found we needed a car because we felt the path unsafe at night and taxis were not always available. Additionally, it was hard to manage the hill with groceries. However, once we had a car, there was no problem.

Since taxis are not always available, I always suggest identifying a driver or taxi you like and call them when needed. In the house manual, there are cards of several drivers who offer reasonable rates and are cooperative about making themselves available when needed. I will make that more prominent for future guests.
The bed in the master is actually a Mexican queen which is a bit narrower than an American queen but the US sheets fit it fine.

Beautiful Lake view, well appointed home.

We spent six months in this lovely home. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need, and much much more. We spent a lot of time on the covered patio enjoying the lake view and fountain. The light on the patio made it a great place for me to paint. Views are exceptional up in the Mirador. Many photos were shared with friends from the rooftop. The neighborhood is beautiful and the streets are slate, so they are good for walking. We recommend this lovely home with it's close proximity to restaurants, food shopping and many other services.

Wonderful home, a true treasure

We rented this lovely home for a month, and will say that it more than met our expectations. It is fully equipped with a gourmet kitchen and wonderful outside spaces to enjoy the warm afternoons and wonderful evenings. The gardens are full of tropical delights- even pomegranates and lemons. It is a perfect location for exploring the area, a car is not really necessary as you can walk to the grocery store, the fish market the wine store etc. The buses are good and cabs are not to expensive.It is a lovely walk to Ajijic , a bit longer to Chapala, but there is a great walking lane/bike lane all along the lake. Great restaurants in Ajijic after walking and sightseeing the outside areas at the casa are very welcome quiet spaces. can't say enough about what a great place this is. The owner was most helpful and provided us with a wealth of information- we would definitely recommend this property

A Little Spot in Paradise

El Dorado is a well-guarded closed community of some 60 villas of all shapes and sizes in traditional Mexican style, all with well-kept gardens of tropical flowers, palms, and friendly neighbours! A fair walking distance from a movie theatre, food, Casino, medical clinics, buses and Walmart, but to enjoy Mexico you need a car. Or perhaps a horse? We rented Arlene's Casa for a year, a perfect place to decide if Mexico is meant for you. Casa #50 has a fine view of the lake especially from the mirador. It is always light and airy, always a cool breeze off the lake even on the hottest days. It is quite well stocked with everything in every sense with good closets. The large bedroom, living and dinning rooms all have full walk out screened doors onto the patio, with lake views. the smaller bedroom bedroom looks over the cactus garden, carport, and tennis courts. There is a gas fireplace for the chilly evenings to relax by. From the mirador, the panorama of Lake Chapala and the mountains on its South shore is spectacular. East & West the North shore looks almost European in places. Behind are more mountains, a few exclusive condos, an infinity pool and clubhouse. I am not a "birder", but this would be a birder's paradise. The dawn chorus starts at 6:30am and a fascinating variety of birdsongs last throughout the day. Birds I have never seen before. There are alway birds to watch on the patio, especially if you fuel a hummingbird feeder. We had a hummingbird's nest on the mirador the size of a walnut! You will not be disappointed.
