LOCATION
The house sits on top of a ridge overlooking native bush and farmland with views of the Tasman Sea in the distance. The property is a 75 acre farm with sheep, cattle, pigs, goats and birds.
The property is 2mins from the Arahura River - an important source of pounamu (jade) on the West Coast.


IMPORTANT - WE ARE AN ECO-FRIENDLY HOME
** Our house is completely off-grid. All our power comes from solar panels. All our water is rainwater collected from the roof. Many of the features in the house are from building recyclers. If you need microwaves, hairdryers and A/C etc, we are not the place for you. You can still use and charge all your devices, watch TV, use your refrigerator, make a hot drink etc.

GUEST ACCESS
- Guests have access to their own bathroom and private bedroom with sitting space. Note on some occasions in peak season the guest bathroom may be shared with a couple or single traveller. This does not happen often.
- No guest kitchen.
- You are free to wander the farm to see the animals.
- For safety reasons the power shed is off limits to guests.
- Do not enter rooms marked "Private".

We are happy to give you plenty of tips and advice about local attractions/history/places to eat and shop and tips on travel in NZ.
Your privacy will be respected, and I will not enter your room during your stay unless delivering breakfast. Please read the entire listing description to be sure I can fully meet your expectations.

ACTIVITIES: Hokitika is the perfect place to base yourself while exploring the West Coast. All the best attractions are only a short drive away. Read our Guides to learn more.

There are many easy bush walks close to our house, the closest winds through an old goldmine site dating back to the 1800's.

Take a walk through Hokitika town and see some of the sights mentioned in the Booker Prize winning author, Eleanor Catton's book, The Luminaries.

You really need at least two days in Hokitika to see most of the attractions.

TRANSPORT: A car is a must to make the most of sightseeing.
We are 15mins from the airport.
The Tranz Alpine train comes into Greymouth Station 30 mins drive away.
The West Coast Cycle Trail is nearby.
Christchurch is 3 hours drive away over SH73 through Arthur's Pass.

THINGS TO NOTE: We are off-grid so we must be careful with our power. Use of hairdryers is not permitted.

What an awesome place Michelle has, it was great to stay out at her farm with all the animals around! It was a peaceful place to relax not too far from Hokitika for anything you might need. “Wonderful place...”
What a wonderful place for a cozy stay with our little family (2 adults, 2 young children). The very bright room has 4 comfy beds and lots of room (and toys for the kids to play). Michelle makes homemade yogurt and cakes every morning MIAM! We also enjoyed her jam which you can purchase using the honesty jar. The information booklet is filled with information about what to do, where to eat and presents the story of how and why they built their lovely house and farm. The kids loved to meet all the animals that walk around the farm. Hi Michelle, thanks for the hospitality. We loved it so much that we brought back some honey and jam ;). You have a wonderful place. The kids loved it. Having the chance to be around farm animals is something we really liked. Charlie still often talks about Max and Buddy. We hope to be back to finish the list of things to do. cheers.

Blue Spur Farmstay in Hokitika was such a special stay. Michelle has a beautiful home in a gorgeous spot, our accommodations were clean, cozy, and so comfortable. We had everything we needed and more with friendly animals to greet and a lovely little breakfast in the morning. It was secluded enough to feel very relaxed, but still very close to town and attractions.

“One of the loveliest farms..”
Michelle's farm is one of the loveliest farms we have stayed in; top-notch hospitality and a stay at a gorgeous property. She made us feel at home the moment we reached. Her homemade treats were delicious; we got her manuka honey and regretted not getting her preserves. We took walks around the farm to see their animals. and lovely cottages. Her homemade yoghurt, granola and cake were scrumptious. The sky views at night are superb for stargazing. The kids loved playing with the toys in the room and interacting with the animals on the farm. Hokitika has many wonderful locations and a stay at Michelle's farm makes it more special.

“The best...”
Best "shared" Airbnb we've ever stayed at and Michelle is a top notch host. If you're interested in experiencing the real culture of New Zealand look no further. Not only did Michelle provide us with homemade yogurt, granola, and baked goods for breakfast she also allowed us to (respectfully) roam free on her property to hang out with the pigs, peacocks, roosters, cows, and sheep! She will even set you up with a bonfire upon request to truly take in the fresh air and beautiful views. I know what you're thinking... sleep on a farm with livestock and share the house with other people, no thanks! But if that's your vibe then stay clear because you'll ruin it for the rest of us. We on the other hand, will be booking a room with Michelle every time we visit Hokitika. Thanks Michelle!

We offer a friendly and warm space that is quite different from a hotel experience. We want guests to feel comfortable and at home in the spaces we have set up. Our listings really appeal to folks who love character homes, enjoy art on the walls and vintage/retro furniture.

We have both traveled extensively.
We absolutely love living here in Hokitika. It has a wonderful community - we are a really eclectic bunch. The scenery is wild and stunning and the history is fascinating.
I'm busy running our farm as well as working. We look forward to meeting our guests and are always happy to help you plan activities here on the West Coast - rain or shine - it is a fantastic place to be.

Payment Policy
Pay securely with credit card.
Cancellation Policy
Due to the nature of the vacation rental business, we cannot accept cancellations occurring later than 30 days to the arrival date. Once dates are taken off the market, they become unavailable to other renters.
With owner approval, guest may find a replacement renter or gift their dates (not future dates) to someone else. Guest MUST cancel the original reservation before owner will assist in trying to rebook the dates. Owner is under no obligation to find a replacement renter.
You will forfeit all sums paid unless we are able to re-rent the property, in which case we will refund an amount equal to any subsequent rental less a $50 handling fee. If a cancellation occurs prior to 30 days to arrival, full refund will be issued less a $40 handling fee.

*For a 100% refund of accommodation fees (minus credit card fees & $40 cancelation fee), cancellation must be made 30 full days prior to listing’s local check in time (or 3:00 PM if not specified) on the day of check in.

*For a 50% refund of accommodation fees (minus credit card fees), cancellation must be made 14 full days prior to listing's local check in time (or 3pm if not specified) on the day of check in. No refund if guest cancels within 7 days.

*If guest arrives and decides to leave early, the nights not spent are not refunded.

*All cancellations have a $40 processing fee.

“Peaceful and relaxing ”

What an awesome place Michelle has, it was great to stay out at her farm with all the animals around! It was a peaceful place to relax not too far from Hokitika for anything you might need. In addition, she left us some fresh yoghurt, milk, musli and banana bread which was delicious! We would definitely recommend her place to anyone exploring the west coast! Kind Regards John and Liz

“Wow wow wow..”

Wow wow wow - Michelle's place is beautiful, peaceful and full of quaint features. Lovely welcome with cake, home-made yoghurt for breakfast, friendly dogs and pigs, gorgeous scenery, etc etc. Just wish, like so many others, that we had stayed for more than our one night! “Wonderful place...”

What a wonderful place for a cozy stay with our little family (2 adults, 2 young children). The very bright room has 4 comfy beds and lots of room (and toys for the kids to play). Michelle makes homemade yogurt and cakes every morning MIAM! We also enjoyed her jam which you can purchase using the honesty jar. The information booklet is filled with information about what to do, where to eat and presents the story of how and why they built their lovely house and farm. The kids loved to meet all the animals that walk around the farm. Hi Michelle, thanks for the hospitality. We loved it so much that we brought back some honey and jam ;). You have a wonderful place. The kids loved it. Having the chance to be around farm animals is something we really liked. Charlie still often talks about Max and Buddy. We hope to be back to finish the list of things to do. cheers.

“A beautiful and unique stay. ”

Blue Spur Farmstay in Hokitika was such a special stay. Michelle has a beautiful home in a gorgeous spot, our accommodations were clean, cozy, and so comfortable. We had everything we needed and more with friendly animals to greet and a lovely little breakfast in the morning. It was secluded enough to feel very relaxed, but still very close to town and attractions.

“GREAT STAY!”

Wow! Michelle is a wonderful hostess. The house is so beautiful. The bed comfortable. Every bit of the stay was enjoyable and comfortable. This was truly a highlight of our time in New Zealand. The animals at the farmstay are well taken care of. We were able to freely walk about the property to enjoy the sights. The views from the house were stunning. I would LOVE to return one day!

“Lots of cute animals ”

“One of the loveliest farms..”

Michelle's farm is one of the loveliest farms we have stayed in; top-notch hospitality and a stay at a gorgeous property. She made us feel at home the moment we reached. Her homemade treats were delicious; we got her manuka honey and regretted not getting her preserves. We took walks around the farm to see their animals. and lovely cottages. Her homemade yoghurt, granola and cake were scrumptious. The sky views at night are superb for stargazing. The kids loved playing with the toys in the room and interacting with the animals on the farm. Hokitika has many wonderful locations and a stay at Michelle's farm makes it more special.

I booked this property as a "stop over" accommodation as we made our way down the west coast. I only wish I'd left more time to enjoy the peace and quiet and animals with the kids. Wonderful family feel- comfortable and quiet.

“The best...”

Best "shared" Airbnb we've ever stayed at and Michelle is a top notch host. If you're interested in experiencing the real culture of New Zealand look no further. Not only did Michelle provide us with homemade yogurt, granola, and baked goods for breakfast she also allowed us to (respectfully) roam free on her property to hang out with the pigs, peacocks, roosters, cows, and sheep! She will even set you up with a bonfire upon request to truly take in the fresh air and beautiful views. I know what you're thinking... sleep on a farm with livestock and share the house with other people, no thanks! But if that's your vibe then stay clear because you'll ruin it for the rest of us. We on the other hand, will be booking a room with Michelle every time we visit Hokitika. Thanks Michelle!
