AREA ACTIVITIES
Cold Months:
General area attractions during cold months include Dodge Ridge (ski and other activities), Leland High Sierra Snow Park, and indoor ice skating often available at Long Barn Lodge. We also sometimes take our kids to snowy areas we find by driving toward the direction of Dodge Ridge, to play and sled for free. On a snow day, we head toward the general direction of Pinecrest, and we often stop by Alicias Sugar Shack Bakery and Cafe for some food.
Warm Months:
General area attractions during warm months include Covers Apple Ranch (dine, small petting zoo, play structure, and train ride), Twain Harte Miniature Golf, Twain Harte Gold Club, Llamas of Circle Home, Columbia State Historic Park and Town (we enjoy the family activities and eating at Columbia Kates Teahouse), Dodge Ridge warm weather activities (often for all ages), and scenic walks and hiking.
Trails:
Regarding trails, search for Twain Harte in the All Trails website/app to locate suggestions including: Lyons Dam, Ditch Trails (more than one), and Twain Harte Old Railroad Grade. During its open months, our family enjoys driving a little further to the Sugar Pine Railway Trail. Learn about this trail by searching for Sugar Pine Railway Trail in the All Trails website or app. This trail is relatively flat, which has been nice for our young children. The majority of the trail includes views of a beautiful large river, that we have seen some families splash around in (start of trail); however, we have only hiked this trail (many times) and never gone down to the water.
Twain Harte Lake (Private Lake):
Please inquire in advance if you are interested in accessing the lake. Access to the lake is not guaranteed, since the lake is not open all months and since there can be a maximum visiter limit. In advance, please let us know of your interest in visiting the lake, so that we can apply for your dates of interest and signify that you are our guest(s). Assuming that the Lake Association approves you for the specified date(s), please note that the Lake Association has a $8 per guest fee (under age three is free) per day, which you would provide to us in advance to give directly (and fully) to the Lake Association. Please share with us the total number in your party, including quantities of persons over and under age three. Thanks!
Twain Harte Eateries:
Twain Harte eateries include The Rock, The Haps, The Villa, Eproson House, The Branch, Local Press, Sportsman Coffee Shop, Sierra Cellars (wine tasting), and Mountain Q (BBQ). Twain Harte includes some cute shops as well. The Rock and Local Press often feature live music. Blue Bear Cabin is within a five minute walk of eateries and shops.
Sonora:
If in Sonora, our favorite shops include the Local Collective Goods & Gifts, and Little Roots Toy Shop. When in Sonora with larger groups, we often eat at Emberz. For breakfast, if were in the area, we enjoy eating at Mandys Breakfast House.
Enjoy!
