FAQ / Cabin Rules:

-Check-in 3:00 PM Check-out 11:00 AM

-Pet fee $50/ max 1 dog under 50 lbs. - No Cats

-Please note that due to the water in the area, there may be a slight sulfur smell when the water is first turned on. There is a water filter at the cabin, but there is still sometimes a little bit of an odor to the water- it is perfectly safe to drink and will dissipate very quickly, but it's something for guests to be aware of!

Please note: The optional firewood charge of $10/night is for firewood. If you don't think you will use the firewood or would like to bring your own, please let us know! We are more than happy to refund that to you.

PLEASE NOTE for November - March bookings: During these winter months, a four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle is recommended in case of implement weather.

There is no trash service in the area, so we ask you to please take your trash with you. There are instructions in the cabin telling you where to go to take it so you don’t have to take it all the way home! Alternatively, the house manager can take them for a tip of $5 per bag.

Best Cabin I've Ever Stayed In
My family and I absolutely loved this cabin and the peaceful retreat it provided. The kids loved fishing off the riverbank while we made a fire for smores. The hammock was a nice touch and so was the hot tub. The cabin itself was so cozy. My favorite part was sitting on the screened in porch drinking coffee and listening to the river and birds singing. I've never felt more relaxed than at Barney's Retreat. 100% recommend. Also it is only 20 minutes from town and some lovely hiking trails. Super convenient.

Beautiful views, comfy, cozy cabin!
We loved this charming cabin! It was clean, the beds were super comfy, youtube cable, wifi, but you won't need it bc you'll be outside taking in the gorgeous views as it's right on the river!! Fire pit was on it as well, plenty of wood there, and the hammick is a nice touch! We truly enjoyed our stay that we asked if anyone was checking in on the day we were leaving, and there was not so we got to stay a few hrs longer!! We will definitely be back during the summer as the shendoah outfitters, where you rent tubes, kayaks, etc was maybe 1 mile from here. (give or take). Cannot wait to come back!

Quiet, Comfortable and Right on the River !
I am so grateful for our stay at Barney's retreat. It had a legacy family feel with updated amenities right on the river!

Jacuzzi on the screen porch with river and mountain views, plenty of picnic tables, fire pit, and fireplace inside. Plenty of wood to burn. The mattresses were comfy in both bedrooms. Clean. Everything you need for a relaxing time.

Two minor issues to mention, when we arrived in the dark, the sign/house number was hard to find. Secondly, I am a very serious coffee drinker and it took me a few times to get the hang of how the pod coffeemaker worked. Rest assured, we will be back!

Great place to stay!
We were pleasantly surprised with all of the extras we found at Barney's Retreat. If you forget anything, it is likely there! We were pleased to find it very clean too.
It is right on the water and in a peaceful location. We asked last minute for a later checkout so we could kayak one more time, and the host was very accommodating. We will definitely return again!

Beautiful and relaxing stay!
Barney's retreat was a beautiful place to stay, the riverside house had all the necessary things to make our stay an amazing time. The proximity to the river was unbeatable and the closed in porch to have all our meals was amazing. The only thing that i was not a fan of was the smell of sulfur in the shower when the hot water was turned on. Other than that it was a great place to be and my family and I had a great time, we would definitely go back!

Very Relaxing little cottage.
Cottage was perfect size, clean, had lots of firewood for the fire pit, very nice location right on the southfork of the Shenandoah River, very quiet area, the odd kayak, canoe came down the river, nice view of mountains at either end really enjoyed our time here, would certainly book this cottage again.

Best Cabin I've Ever Stayed In
