Our home is dog friendly, but there is an extra cost to us as homeowners for maintenance and cleaning related to our furry family members. For this reason, we charge a $200 pet deposit. However, we know how frustrating it can be to pay a pet deposit for our own dog, Wookie, when we travel because he honestly doesn't make a mess. He's well trained and completely potty-trained. For this reason, we are willing to refund up to $100 of your deposit if our home is left in good order without evidence of soiled carpets or fur on furniture etc. Our housekeepers will alert us of evidence (and document with photos) that would cause us to retain any portion of the refundable $100. If you are a returning guest and your pet joined you during your previous stay, we will waive the pet fee.

Welcome to Above and Beyond! We chose Above and Beyond as the name for our vacation home for two reasons. First, we feel blessed beyond measure to call this our home away from home. Second, we have tried very hard to go “above and beyond” in terms of providing our guests a vacation home and amenities that maximize comfort and enjoyment!

The location of this home is near the heart of Surf City, North Carolina, making it easy to walk, bike, or rent a golf cart to run around town.

Whether your interests are boating, fishing, crabbing, relaxing, playing in the surf, or watching the herons feed early each morning, this lovely property has something for everyone! With breathtaking views, this canal home offers three expansive porches that provide the perfect spot to watch the sun rise with a cup of coffee or with a glass of wine while the sun sinks into the horizon each evening. There is a dock for private fishing, kayaking, or parking your boat. If the fish aren’t biting, grab the corn hole or another outdoor game from the downstairs closet, and get your game on!

Above and Beyond sleeps ten comfortably. On one side of the home on the main floor you will find a king bedroom and a bedroom with two twin beds, with a full bath between them. Both of these bedrooms offer smart TVs and the king bedroom offers direct porch access, so if the mood strikes, you can step outside in the wee hours of the morning to ponder the moon’s reflection in the still water of the canal. On the opposite side of the home there are two more bedrooms; a king bedroom with direct porch access to the canal as well as a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, which offers access to the street side porch. In between these two bedrooms is a full bath.

The kitchen upstairs is fully equipped with everything you’ll need and all the extras: toaster oven, air fryer, tea kettle, slow cooker, coffee station (with both a drip style and pod style coffee maker) and more counter space than you could ask for. The welcoming dining area comfortably seats six at the table, but pull up the bench and eight can easily gather around. There are five extra seats, bar-style. For the avid cooks, step outside to the lower level porch to cut some fresh basil, parsley, or mint from the potted herbs. The upstairs living room offers a sleek, flat screen TV and plenty of comfy seating.

Downstairs on the ground floor of Above and Beyond, guests will find the perfect “mini-retreat” that the teens will certainly claim as their own! There is a living room with a smart TV, a twin bed with a trundle, and a kitchenette that boasts a small refrigerator as well as a wine refrigerator and a microwave. There is also a game/dining table and plenty of board games and card games housed here for the kids and young at heart. When you can’t bear another round of Trivial Pursuit, head to the ping-pong table for a little more fun!

Parking is spacious, with room for three or four cars. You will also find a charcoal grill, outdoor furniture, sand toys for the beach and a fire pit. Kayaks and life vests are provided as well.

Above and Beyond is located less than two-tenths of a mile from the ocean and it is the perfect place to create new memories and experience a purely joyful beach vacation. We trust that long after you depart, you will recall a vacation that was truly “Above and Beyond”.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
Weekly rentals (during high season) run Saturday to Saturday.

When you request to book our home, please provide your full name and some information about yourself. Above and Beyond is our family vacation home and we hope to retire there one day. For this reason, we know you understand that we are very protective of our home and are more likely to accept reservations from people who have excellent reviews from other hosts or who can provide a reference. We only consider reservations from mature adults using their own verified accounts.

Unfortunately, our home does not have a boat ramp. The ramp to the right of our house (canal side) belongs to our neighbor and the ramp is monitored via security cameras. We cannot, under any circumstance, grant permission to use our neighbors boat ramp. There are several boat ramps available on the island and you are more than welcome to use the boat slip that belongs with our property, but the boat ramp is not part of your Above and Beyond rental.


INCLUDED IN YOUR WEEKLY/MONTHLY RENTAL:

Bed linens (sheets, blankets, comforters, pillows), bath towels, and kitchen towels are included in your rental. Beach towels are included. There is no additional fee for cleaning.

A “starter supply” of the following items will be provided for your stay: paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish detergent, zip lock bags, and foil. We also try to keep a supply of different spices, oil, coffee filters, etc.

We are keenly aware that space is at a premium when packing vehicles for a vacation, so to save some space in your vehicles and to provide you a little extra sanity, our home is also equipped with the following items:
1 beach wagon
1 dog crate (kept folded up in the laundry room)
1 beach tent/shelter
6 beach chairs
4 life jackets
Eight beach towels
A variety of beach toys/pool noodles, boogie boards, etc.


ENHANCED CLEANING: We follow CDC cleaning guidelines and ensure all high touched areas have been wiped down with disinfectant spray.

The other two four-legged children in our house are Wookie (a very spoiled Morkie) and Piper, a foster-fail who captured my daughter's heart. I am a full time educator and Mike is retired. Our daughter, Kaylee, is a freshman in college and Michael is a senior in high school We had a condominium on Caswell Beach, NC, but sold it in 2020 in favor of our home in Surf City. We have thoroughly enjoyed making Above and Beyond our own, and we know that you will enjoy the canal (and all our home has to offer) as much as we do!

If you find that something is not in good working order when you arrive, It is very important that you reach out to Owner to let us know. There are some things that our caretakers may not notice (e.g. the ice maker is not making ice or blender is not working), so we'd appreciate it if you'd let us know if you have any issues when you arrive.

25% of total rental monies (rent and pet deposit) are due at the time of confirmation or upon execution of rental agreement. Remaining balance is due 30 days prior to check-in and can be paid via personal check, cashier's check, Paypal, Venmo or Zelle. Installment payments are permitted as long as balance is paid 30 days prior to check-in. Refundable security deposit is due 7 days prior to check in.

As a security deposit alternative, houfyProtect, an upfront nonrefundable low cost property damage protection policy for just $5 per night, is taken at time of booking.
Cancellation Policy
PLEASE NOTE: Our cancellation policy is essential for us to continue offering the amenities we provide our guests at affordable prices. In 2020/2021, COVID restrictions and mandatory evacuations/closures due to hurricanes/storms, we offered refunds to our guests who had to cancel their reservations for something that was neither their fault nor ours, but this practice is not sustainable for us.

We strongly suggest that you purchase vacation insurance if you think your trip might be disrupted. We are willing to share the cost of trip insurance as specified below.

Trip Insurance: Trip insurance protects all parties. We are asking our guests to purchase low-cost trip insurance. If you send us documentation of your purchase and policy within 30 days of your initial reservation/payment with us, we will reimburse you 50% of the cost of your policy, up to $75.

Should you decide to purchase trip insurance, we can help refer you to reputable sources.

Cancellations in writing will be handled as follows:
60 days prior to arrival--fully refundable, less $75.00
30-59 days prior to arrival--homeowners retain 25% rent monies
1-29 days prior to arrival--homeowners retain monies with the
*100% of paid security deposit (if applicable) will be refunded in the instances described above

Notes

Security Camera Notice: Above and Beyond premises is equipped with an exterior camera for security purposes. The camera will not capture any images of the interior of our home. The only camera is outside of the entryway.

Rental rules: Guest, all members of the rental party, and anyone else Guest permits on the property agree to abide by terms here and the rental rules attached as “rental rules” at all times while at the property.
Access: Guest shall allow owners or their designee/s access to the property for purposes of repair and inspection. Homeowner and designee/s shall exercise the right of access in a reasonable manner and will notify Guest prior to accessing the property. Owners will provide an access code to renters effective for the duration of their stay.

Liability: All guests will hold harmless the owners for any injury, illness, or loss during their stay. Any person on/in the property is the sole responsibility of the guests. This house is privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, illness or loss that occur while on the premises. By signing this agreement, it is agreed that all guests (and others who are invited by Guest) are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premises.

Rental rate, Payments, Fees, Cancellations, and Refunds: Final payment as agreed in accepted quote is due at least 30 days prior to check-in date. Acceptable payment methods are cashier's check, personal check, PayPal, Venmo, or Square (through Houfy).

Security Deposit: A $500 refundable security deposit must be paid 7 days prior to check-in. Deposit will be refunded within 10 business days of check-out date, less any actual damages permitted to be withheld under the Tenant Security Deposit Act and any unauthorized charges for which Guest is responsible.

Smoking: Absolutely no smoking is allowed in Above and Beyond. A $400.00 remediation fee will be charged if this policy is violated.

Quiet Hours: Above and Beyond is a family home in a residential neighborhood. Quiet hours are from 11 pm each night until sunrise each day. During quiet hours, music and noise must be kept at a minimum out of respect for surrounding residents. Failure to comply will result in immediate eviction.

The cleaning fee (upon your departure) is included in stays of seven or more nights. For stays fewer than seven nights, a cleaning fee of $200 will apply.
