Wilson Creek Wilderness Area - Mortimer Campground, waterfalls, fly fishing, camping, hiking
5-20-18 Western North Carolina and the surrounding areas have received record rainfall in the past few days and many places have experienced severe flood damage as a result. The Wilson Creek area around Edgemont and Mortimer were hit hard and there are bridges out and roads closed.
Julian Price Memorial Park | Blue Ridge National Heritage Area
Comprising more than 4,300 acres, including a small lake, Julian Price Memorial Park offers many activities, including hiking, fishing, canoeing, camping, guided walks, and evening campfire programs. The grounds include 100 picnic sites, with shelters and comfort stations. A 300-seat amphitheater is used for lectures and talks during the summer months.
Grassy Creek Falls - Little Switzerland, Blue Ridge Parkway
Toms Creek Falls. Turn left on NC226. After a mile or so, 226 turns right. Continue straight on NC226A to avoid most of the traffic and big trucks. 226A winds it's way up the mountain for about 10 miles to Little Switzerland.
Linville Gorge - The Grand Canyon of North Carolina
The Linville River with its source high on Grandfather Mountain has, by its tremendous scouring action, formed one of Eastern America's most scenic and rugged gorges. The steep walls of the Gorge enclose the Linville River for 12 miles.
