Welcome to our beautifully updated 1916 Craftsman home, nestled in Menlo Parks historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Weve made extensive upgrades, including new flooring, modern appliances (including a dishwasher!), and enhanced fixtures in the bathroom. The bedroom now offers more space, and the patio has a delightful shade for you to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Youll find a great layout in our 750 sq ft home, making it feel spacious and welcoming. The living-dining area offers ample room and even space for a dedicated work desk. The kitchen is generously sized and connects to a convenient mudroom with easy access to the back door. The bathroom boasts a cozy feel, and weve added a curved shower bar for extra comfort while enjoying the waterfall shower head.
Entertainment options are abundant, from live local TV and streaming services like Hulu and Disney+ on the flat-screen TV with a soundbar, to super-fast WiFi for your favorite media devices. Weve also ensured your devices safety by updating and grounding the outlets throughout the historic home.
Comfort is a priority here with an oversized HVAC unit to keep you cool in the summer and warm on chilly desert nights. Additionally, weve installed two whole-home air cleaners, featuring polarized filters and UV lights, to ensure fresh and healthy air.
Bedroom one offers about 100 sq ft of space, complete with a queen bed, drawers underneath, a nightstand, and a closet. Bedroom two is even cozier, featuring a queen bed, dresser, and side table. The dining room and living room are designed to comfortably seat six, just like the patio set.
Speaking of the patio, its a perfect spot to enjoy the desert landscape and wildlife, especially during cool mornings and evenings. Youll find unlimited seating on the spacious front porch, along with two relaxing lounging-style chairs. The back deck, complete with benches, offers a great space to relax, and a sunshade allows you to enjoy the deck and patio even more. Please note the sunshade may not be available due to monsoon storms in the summer months, when its too hot in the shade anyway.
We happily welcome pets, and we have a dog door at the back and a fully fenced yard for their enjoyment. Pet owners are kindly requested to clean up after their furry friends, both indoors and outdoors.
Special amenities abound, including a grill, fire ring, and two electric scooters.
Please be aware that our neighborhood has a rich history and a diverse mix of properties, ranging from half-million-dollar remodels to new construction and older homes like our charming 1916 cottage. While we take immense pride in our continuous improvement and repair efforts, we want to be transparent that our home may not be the epitome of a fancy old home renovation. The slightly slanted floors, non-square corners, and creaking floors add to the character and charm of our beloved home.
We hope youll find our historic retreat a delightful and inviting place to stay, creating wonderful memories during your time in Menlo Park. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to book your stay!
We’re happy to hear from potential guests with any questions, special requests, about potential future dates or stays over 18 days.
We offer a moderate cancellation policy.
If you choose the discount, non refundable rate, no refunds will be made should you have to cancel, regardless of the reason.
Notes on Linda:
Built in 1916
Craftsman Bungalow
Rare for the era wood construction
Stone fence at front is made of volcanic rock mined at A mountain. You’ll find homes and fences of this rock a lot in the neighborhoods near UA. It can no longer be mined making this a rare and valuable feature.
The art at Linda:
In the dining room west wall is a photo print from the cauldron burn at an early All Souls Procession and a line art drawing created by a friend as he sat at what would now be the end of the dining table, at one of those fun craft parties we used to do. Below is a tile-top table created by Victor. On the north wall is a painting by a local artist purchased at Mr Heads (Craft beers on tap & local art on display in a hip space with exposed-brick walls & a patio, address: 513 N 4th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705) on a trip home after moving to San Diego, and over the bar a framed print thats been in most of our houses.
In the living room are framed hand-painted scenes from Mexican artists in Guadalajara, where a part of our family is from.
Over the desk and in the front bedroom are now some large paintings by a local artist I found at the winter street fair 2022. The bedroom hosts Floral Note and an abstract piece in white, while a large floral print greets you on entry from over the desk.
In the back bedroom and kitchen are some floral still lives, by an artist and friend named Richard Zelens, his pieces are typically huge and always vibrant, plus affordable. Above the laundry some pressed flowers by a friend again, from our crafting days.
In the mudroom are a couple second hand farm house style prints and painting.
A note on us as hosts: we are a lower class couple who found long term renters to be too destructive to such an older home, and use airbnb as a means to protect and improve her. We do not make any profit from this venture, as revenues cover costs and the regular maintenance and frequent repairs. We host because we love this house and weve loved using airbnb ourselves, and get real joy out of sharing our unique little home with you.
You have the whole place to yourself.
We are not onsite however easily reached for any issues, and have a team of incredible local professionals who help us.
Youre steps way from one of the best taquerias in town (Sonoran Delights with the fabled Sonoran Hotdog, authentic tacos and dinners, Raspados and Escamoches!), as well as Pats Chili Dogs down Grande Ave in Barrio Hollywood, the Mercado San Augustine with restaurants and stores, and with the street car a block away youre connected to all thats cool about Tucson. Also nearby is the Santa Cruz River Walk or Loop stretching from south of town all the way north (great for biking, jogging, scooter rides), bike rentals (on Bonito just north), the Garden of Gesthemene sculptures and lots more...
Note this is Menlo Park west of I-10, one of Tucson’s oldest neighborhoods. In fact it’s the original “barrio,” the banks of the Santa Cruz having been continuously inhabited for over 4,000 years. It’s a great neighborhood with a mix of historic, traditional and the up & coming. The street Casa Linda is on is quiet and friendly, filled with traditional multi-generational blue-color families and young professionals.
Casa Linda itself is surrounded by two undeveloped lots, whose owners anxiously await the date they can get ahold of Casa Linda and sell it all to a developer, which we have no intention of allowing. The bonus to you is a lot of privacy. We have never had issues, but if either lot is ever a detraction from your stay (due to its state or any activity), please let us know right away and we will get in contact with the owners.
Streetcar, buses, and bikes for rent are all nearby. Easy access to all of downtown Tucson, or enjoy the loop on the Santa Cruz River Walk for a run or stroll.
We outfit Linda with everything new (and some personal treasured favorites) in 2019, and readily replace and upgraded things since, so you have a great furnished place to stay! We like to visit, so if its not up to our standards we fix it, right away.
We do our best to have as low a cleaning fee as possible and pay a living wage; of the $80 fee, all $80 goes to the cleaner. This cleaner rate does not include cleaning any extra amenities used such as the grill or firepit, which would raise the fee by another $40 to plan for their possible use by every guest. Instead, we ask guests whod like to use them, to return these amenities as they found them, or we can arrange small reasonable fees if you would rather not have the hassle.
We do not expect guests to clean, but we do ask that spills, large messes, large amounts of trash be addressed, i.e. just pick up after yourself a little. This helps avoid more mess and stains.
Casa Linda offers both a moderate, and a discounted, non-refundable cancellation policy. If you select the optional, discounted non-refundable option, please be aware that refund will not be made under any circumstance, including medical or family emergencies.
Casa Linda uses a smart lock and thermostat, and bluetooth/aux speakers for your music, and we have plenty of charging cables. The WiFi is on a router and works great!
Pets must be disclosed when booking. Pets not disclosed will incur an additional $100 fee. In the event of a pet mess inside the house, a cleaning kit is available under the kitchen sink, contact us right away for instructions to avoid a stain and any extra cleaning charges.
Any amenities used (grill, patio table, fire ring, scooters, etc.) must be cleaned and put away. A charge will be applied as follows if the cleaners must do this for you:
Cigarette Butts in the yard -$15
Dog poop in the yard - $20
Fire ring not emptied and stored - $15
Grill not cleaned and put away with cover - $20
Patio Table not cleaned and put away with cover - $15
Smoking inside the house - $200
Alternately, if you want a stress free vacation with no clean up (or assistance setting up) , let us know in advance and we can adjust the cleaning fee and cleaners schedule to accommodate!
