Hello! I manage Grandfather's Shadow Cabin for my mother. My parents purchased the cabin in 2007 and have loved it since. I am not a stranger to the mountains of NC. I spent my first Christmas just down the street from Grandfather's Shadow. My grandparents lived just up the mountain in Mill Ridge for years. I spent many summers with my siblings and cousins making trails through the woods of Mill Ridge. I am most at peace in the mountains. I sincerely hope you will be too when you stay at our cabin.
I currently live in North GA in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and my mom lives just outside of Atlanta. We have good contacts and help in the Banner Elk area if you are in need of help. So rest assured that you will enjoy your time in the mountains.

“Highly recommend”
My son and I stayed here for a few days of skiing at nearby
Appalachian, and this cabin was absolutely perfect - cozy and inviting, and stocked with everything we needed to make a dinner after a day on the slopes. It's clear this has been a well-loved and cared for place for the host's family for a long time. Perfect in the winter, band probably equally beautiful in the summer to get into the mountains and away from the heat. Host, Elizabeth, was absolutely fantastic in every way, and extremely communicative. Highly recommend.

“Clean, comfortable and relaxing”
We had a great long weekend at Grandfather’s Shadow. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything we needed to prepare meals. The fans and window AC kept us comfortable, even in June, and the location is ideal, between Boone and Banner Elk just steps away from the Watuga River and a short drive from great hiking and ski resorts.

“Cozy, comfy and convenient ”
We stayed here in the fall and now the spring - really all times of year are great here! The cabin has new floors, updates, very clean and smells good even with pets allowed. We cooked meals in well equipped kitchen with grocery store close. We relaxed on the porch rockers for coffee In the morning sun listening to the river and stayed cozy by the fire inside at night. Neighborhood is safe, friendly, hiking trails and streets to walk with beautiful grounds, river, pool, swings and tennis courts. Convenient to local hikes and also Banner Elk, Blowing Rock and Boone activities. Enjoyed Grandfather Vineyards close by with live music. Owner is super helpful and kind! Definitely a great place to stay!!!!

“Great getaway”
My husband and I wanted a quite getaway.... This place was perfect! It‘s far enough away from crowds, but close enough for food and entertainment. The house has everything you need and then some! We forgot to buy spices for our meals, but guess what.. they had them! Did you for forget chairs for a picnic... no problem, they have them there for you!! This is the best supplied house we have ever stayed in, and the host was the best. She made sure everything was satisfactory and offered recommendations for places to visit. Definitely highly recommend Grandfather Shadow!!

“Great place in the mountains!”

“Cozy cabin in a great location”
This is a cozy cabin tucked away on a nice property (Mill Ridge). The property and cabin are well maintained. The cabin features a nice deck, with camp chairs to sit outside and enjoy the mountain air. It also has a full size stove, fridge and microwave (and gas grill outside) so if you prefer to cook it’s no problem! The property features an old ski trail that is great for a short hike that takes you to the old ski chair lift. Great for kids and dogs! The location is fantastic! You can get to downtown Boone, Banner Elk or Blowing Rock within 15-20 minutes. Grandfather Winery is located just down the street!
