20145 State Highway 88, Pine Grove
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
The Motherlode is a year-round adventure destination. In the winter, we've got easy access to skiing at Kirkwood; in the summer, take your pick of boating, fishing, hiking and more in the surrounding location. Regardless when you visit, make sure you take a trip to Munnerlyn's Ice Creamery right off the main highway in Pine Grove. This ice cream shop is centrally located, perfect to stop in while coming back down the mountain from a long day of skiing, or pop on over before heading back to the Cabin after exploring the gold country all day.
Ice cream flavors change regularly, but there are always regular favorites (Kit Carson Krunk, mmm) as well as seasonal flavors and limited editions on offer. In addition, with food allergies in our family, we really appreciate that there is always at least one dairy-free sorbet on the menu. All flavors are written on the white board behind the counter, and regularly updated on their Facebook page. Can't decide? Ask for a taste of any of the flavors. Everything our family has had so far has been delicious and fun. The folks behind the counter are always helpful and courteous.
Munnerlyn's makes all their ice cream flavors by hand. If you're lucky, you can see the ice cream being made in the production area through the viewing window in the shop. If you're really lucky, you might get to sample whatever they're making in back!
Space inside the shop is limited, but there is plenty of seating outside. Keep this in mind if you visit on a day with inclement weather. You can always pick up a quart (or two, or five, no judgement here) in the shop to go, it will definitely stay frozen on the drive back to the Cabin.
Will be sure to stop by when next time in the area. Love the ice cream sign too!
