Information About our Utilities
Upcountry living requires a few adjustments to what you may be accustomed to...we promise it's worth it!
Fresh and pure mountain water is supplied to the cabin from our underground well. The water requires only minimal treatment and filtering before hitting the taps. The water at Gold Creek Cabin is some of the best we've had - clear, clean, refreshing, and no aftertaste. The water does not contain chloramine or fluoride, which are found in most municipal water systems.
Cold drinking water is available from the dispenser in the refrigerator. This water passes through an additional filter that also supplies the ice maker.
Like most rural households, wastewater is handled by a septic system. Due to this, please take care to flush only toilet tissue down the toilets. Additionally, please dispose of food scraps in the garbage instead of down the kitchen sink disposer.
Garbage and recycling are picked up each Friday morning (deferred to Saturday on selected holidays). On collection days, we ask that vehicles are parked behind the house (by the EV charger) in order to give the trucks as much room as they need on our narrow driveway.

Propane is used for stovetop burners, the furnace heater, the fireplaces, as well as the outdoor fire pit and grill. Instructions for operating the fireplaces and fire pit can be found in the "How Does it Work" binder in the cabin.
Electricity comes from the grid. While generally reliable, this means that we are susceptible to power outages during storms as well as local Public Safety Power Shutoffs when the risk of wildfire is high. For more information, see our story below:
