We are only a 5min drive to the beach which is a beautifully wild place filled with amazing driftwood and pebbles - a great place for a bonfire.

Hokitika is the perfect place to base yourself while exploring the West Coast. All the best attractions are only a short drive away.
There are many easy bush walks close to our house, the closest winds through an old goldmine site dating back to the 1800's.
Take a walk through Hokitika town and see some of the sights mentioned in the Booker Prize winning author, Eleanor Catton's book, The Luminaries.
You really need at least two days in Hokitika to see most of the attractions.
A car is recommended to make the most of sightseeing but Hokitika Scenic Tours can drive you to most attractions.
We are 15mins from the airport.
The Tranz Alpine train comes into Greymouth Station 30 mins drive away.
The West Coast Cycle Trail is nearby.
Christchurch is 3 hours drive away over SH73 through Arthur's Pass.
As we are off-grid, we MUST be careful with our power. We do not have a microwave, air conditioning, dishwasher or electric blankets (we offer hotwater bottles in winter), but our house is very warm. Use of hairdryers is not permitted.
We cook on a woodstove in our kitchen. This also provides all the heating for the house. Water is collected from rainwater on the roof and totally safe to drink. In summer water is in short supply and we need to be careful with water use. We have cellphone coverage but it is not good.
**There is a TV in one room that can be used with Chromecast (it is not able to get satellite channels).**
Guests can not cook here.
The most eco friendly property on the West Coast. All solar powered. Rain water collection. We recycle. All food waste is feed to animals or composted. Go green! Stay with us!

We have both traveled extensively.
We absolutely love living here in Hokitika. It has a wonderful community - we are a really eclectic bunch. The scenery is wild and stunning and the history is fascinating.
I'm busy running our farm as well as working. We look forward to meeting our guests and are always happy to help you plan activities here on the West Coast - rain or shine - it is a fantastic place to be.

My #1 top tip when visiting NZ - have travel insurance. If there are any issues with flight delays/road closures etc, you are covered if you can't reach your destination. We are a very small family run business so we can not act as an insurer for you.
With owner approval, guest may find a replacement renter or gift their dates (not future dates) to someone else. Guest MUST cancel the original reservation before owner will assist in trying to rebook the dates. Owner will make every effort to re-rent the property.
You will forfeit all sums paid unless we are able to re-rent the property, in which case we will refund an amount equal to any subsequent rental less a $30 handling fee. If a cancellation occurs prior to 30 days to arrival, full refund will be issued less a $30 handling fee.
*For a 100% refund of accommodation fees (minus credit card fees), cancellation must be made 30 full days prior to listing’s local check in time (or 3:00 PM if not specified) on the day of check in.
*For a 50% refund of accommodation fees (minus credit card fees), cancellation must be made 14 full days prior to listing's local check in time (or 3pm if not specified) on the day of check in. No refund if guest cancels within 7 days.
*If guest arrives and decides to leave early, the nights not spent are not refunded.
*All cancellations have a $30 processing fee.
Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance
* It is highly recommended guest purchase trip cancellation/interruption insurance in case of family emergencies/bad weather delays, flight/rental car cancellations, job loss, snow/ice, Covid-19 bans/restrictions, etc.
We encourage all guests to purchase traveler insurance through a private company. It is Guest’s responsibility to obtain and know their own coverage options.
Water and Septic: DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper in toilets. No feminine products or foreign objects should ever be flushed. If it is found that misuse has resulted in a clog the sewer system, you could be charged damages.
