Enjoy views of the ocean , hear the crash of the waves and smell the salt air. This home is just steps to the direct beach access on this quiet street in S Nags Head MP20 with no busy streets to cross. A lifeguard stand is at the end of this street and is staffed during the day during summer. Beautifully decorated and many amenities to make your vacation complete (pool, hot tub, fenced yard, oceanview - 3 back from ocean, DVDs, Games, plenty of outdoor living)



South Nags Head beaches are not crowded and perfect for family relaxation yet still close to restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, and local attractions. Very near the Bodie Island Lighthouse, the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island, 4X4 beaches. Take a morning walk, jog or bike ride on the wide paved path behind the house that is separate from the main road.



For the fishermen in your family, you are close to the Oregon inlet fishing center, OBX pier and Jeanette’s pier. If you fish from the beach there is a fish cleaning station for your convenience outside of the house.



Why we chose South Nags Head: Our family has been coming to the outer banks for many years and South Nags Head is our favorite location. We love it so much for it’s quiet beaches and convenience. Many years we have watched turtles hatch and make their journey to the ocean. We married on the beach here in South Nags Head and thought it was only fitting that we buy a special place of our own. Two pyramid bunk beds (twin over full). A nice reading nook in place of a closet. There is plenty of room in the 4 drawers under the beds for clothes. “Fantastic Summer Rental! Can’t Be Beat!!”
Summer Shanty was a perfect OBX beach rental for our family. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac just steps to beach, the views for morning sunrise and evening sunset on the front and back decks were superb! The house is beautifully decorated and nicely laid out for maximum enjoyment. We love to cook at home and this kitchen was very well stocked, nicely laid out with plenty of counter space for multiple cooks prepping, and a great dining table for meals with loved ones! The deck was also a nice place to sit and annoy morning coffee or evening appetizers. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The pool was a “must have” for our family and added to the enjoyment of the week. It was perfect for swimming after a great day at the beach. No need for the outdoor fun to end. Oh! And the outdoor shower was the BEST we’ve ever had! There was lots of fun to be had inside and out. Nicely stocked with games, comfortable couches and a hot tub, this summer rental lacked nothing! We’ve been vacationing in OBX for more than 20 years and this was our favorite house ever! The location is just a few minutes drive to markets, Ice cream shops and other attractions to enhance your stay. The beaches are fabulous and we loved the short walk to the beach. Literally, the best beaches! So much fun!! Easy and beautiful! Rent it! You’ll be glad you did. We are!

“Great home with perfect access to the beach!”
We loved our stay here. House was perfect for us. Everything was well kept. The pool and hot tub were fantastic. It was a 3 minute walk to the beach and you don’t have to cross any busy roads. We especially loved the life guard right at our beach access point. We had 4 kids with us and it was so nice to setup right beside the lifeguard stand. We’ve stayed all over in the OBX and this location is tough to beat. South Nags head feels away from everything with less crowded beaches but close enough to get dinner and groceries within a 10-15 minute drive. Thanks, Tracy for a wonderful week.

“Awesome location”
We just spent a week at the Summer Shanty and enjoyed every minute.
Tracy is an excellent host and is extremely helpful with everything from beginning to end.
We absolutely loved the location of the house. Walk to and from the beach was easy. Also loved that it is located just far enough south that you are away from the traffic and commotion in the main areas of Nags Head however close enough to take advantage of these things if you like.
After many years of staying at MP 10 we have decided that MP 20 is our new destination!

Perfect!
This house is SO cute! Great lay out, great views, and the beach is right there! Pool is perfect for kids during beach breaks. So much to do and see, we never even stepped foot in the living room! Planning OBX is a bit overwhelming because many different location options. So happy we chose South Nags Head, it was perfect. Just a quite little beach neighborhood, just close enough to everything, without all the noise and congestion. The light houses are so cool- we climbed Bodie. We did the Wright bros monument. And we drove all the way down the Hatteras National Seashore, stopping along the way. Our favorite was Pea Island. So much so we went back another day. It is truly unbelievable. Like a deserted island of gorgeous rolling hills of sand and waves. My kids could not get enough and are still talking about it.

A Perfect Home Away from Home

Amazing Getaway

“Wonderful Vacation”
We had a wonderful time at the Summer Shanty. Love the location and cleanliness of the house. We spent most of our evenings hanging out by the pool and the amazing underneath sitting area after our beach days. The walkway over the sand dune and lifeguard is a bonus for most South Nags Head accesses. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a South Nags Head beach vacation. Tracy is a wonderful host!

We love her and are so glad you are happy with her work. The pool is usually the biggest attraction for families with kids because we remember that the younger ones cannot take the beach all day but do enjoy still playing in the water, and I just love having a pool too. “Fantastic Summer Rental! Can’t Be Beat!!”

Summer Shanty was a perfect OBX beach rental for our family. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac just steps to beach, the views for morning sunrise and evening sunset on the front and back decks were superb! The house is beautifully decorated and nicely laid out for maximum enjoyment. We love to cook at home and this kitchen was very well stocked, nicely laid out with plenty of counter space for multiple cooks prepping, and a great dining table for meals with loved ones! The deck was also a nice place to sit and annoy morning coffee or evening appetizers. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The pool was a “must have” for our family and added to the enjoyment of the week. It was perfect for swimming after a great day at the beach. No need for the outdoor fun to end. Oh! And the outdoor shower was the BEST we’ve ever had! There was lots of fun to be had inside and out. Nicely stocked with games, comfortable couches and a hot tub, this summer rental lacked nothing! We’ve been vacationing in OBX for more than 20 years and this was our favorite house ever! The location is just a few minutes drive to markets, Ice cream shops and other attractions to enhance your stay. The beaches are fabulous and we loved the short walk to the beach. Literally, the best beaches! So much fun!! Easy and beautiful! Rent it! You’ll be glad you did. We are!

We have tried to make every amenity that we wanted on our vacations for you. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Great Vacation

Wonderful place. The house checked all our boxes...Pool, close to the beach, clean, and spacious. Couldn't of found a better place to stay.

“Great home with perfect access to the beach!”

We loved our stay here. House was perfect for us. Everything was well kept. The pool and hot tub were fantastic. It was a 3 minute walk to the beach and you don’t have to cross any busy roads. We especially loved the life guard right at our beach access point. We had 4 kids with us and it was so nice to setup right beside the lifeguard stand. We’ve stayed all over in the OBX and this location is tough to beat. South Nags head feels away from everything with less crowded beaches but close enough to get dinner and groceries within a 10-15 minute drive. Thanks, Tracy for a wonderful week.

Perfect Summer Vacation House

This house and location was perfect, plenty of room and comfortable amenities. Tracy was super helpful/responsive and we had a great stay. Would definitely consider staying here again.

“Awesome location”

We just spent a week at the Summer Shanty and enjoyed every minute.
Tracy is an excellent host and is extremely helpful with everything from beginning to end.
We absolutely loved the location of the house. Walk to and from the beach was easy. Also loved that it is located just far enough south that you are away from the traffic and commotion in the main areas of Nags Head however close enough to take advantage of these things if you like.
After many years of staying at MP 10 we have decided that MP 20 is our new destination!
Highly recommend this house , the host and the location!

Beautiful house!

We were very impressed with our stay at the house. It was immaculate and Tracy was an excellent host. The beach was so quiet with plenty of room to spread out. The backyard and decks are equipped with plenty of seating for a large group. Everything was as described or better in person!

Perfect!

This house is SO cute! Great lay out, great views, and the beach is right there! Pool is perfect for kids during beach breaks. So much to do and see, we never even stepped foot in the living room! Planning OBX is a bit overwhelming because many different location options. So happy we chose South Nags Head, it was perfect. Just a quite little beach neighborhood, just close enough to everything, without all the noise and congestion. The light houses are so cool- we climbed Bodie. We did the Wright bros monument. And we drove all the way down the Hatteras National Seashore, stopping along the way. Our favorite was Pea Island. So much so we went back another day. It is truly unbelievable. Like a deserted island of gorgeous rolling hills of sand and waves. My kids could not get enough and are still talking about it.

Also, Orange Blossom in Hatteras has really good breakfast pastries. I am very happy you enjoyed the house and that your vacation was good. A Perfect Home Away from Home

The Summer Shanty is so cozy and comfortable! It was very clean upon our arrival and my whole family enjoyed the house and closeness to the beach immensely! Tracy was incredibly kind, accomodating, and communicative. Even though it was unseasonably chilly for our stay, we loved every second. We plan to book again next year!!!

Amazing Getaway

My family and I had an amazing stay at the Summer Shanty! The house is in a great location, a stones throw away from the beach. It is everything you can imagine and then some, clean, accommodating, very thoughtfully laid out. The backyard… just wow! The views of the sunrise and sunset… breathtaking! Thank you for opening your home to us and the priceless memories we made!

“Wonderful Vacation”

We had a wonderful time at the Summer Shanty. Love the location and cleanliness of the house. We spent most of our evenings hanging out by the pool and the amazing underneath sitting area after our beach days. The walkway over the sand dune and lifeguard is a bonus for most South Nags Head accesses. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a South Nags Head beach vacation. Tracy is a wonderful host!

Thank you so much for writing a review. I notice that a lot of people talk about the cleanliness. We have our own cleaner and she is fantastic! We love her and are so glad you are happy with her work. The pool is usually the biggest attraction for families with kids because we remember that the younger ones cannot take the beach all day but do enjoy still playing in the water, and I just love having a pool too. I am glad you enjoyed the house and hope you come back. Sorry for the late reply. I did not see this until now.
